There is no way you can split the rent evenly and not have a fight in a few months. Room 3 is a monster compared to room 1 and 2. Btw, giving someone an uneven advantage is not fair if you didn't know already.

I hate rock, paper, scissors so my roommate and I drew cards and whoever had the higher card got to choose.

put names into hat. pull out. if you're interested in "cheating" slightly bend the corner of the paper for whom you want to win or bend the piece of paper a bit differently so when you're "randomly" pulling one name out, you know you have the right name.

Maybe a more accurate method would be to assign a base cost, then tack on the sqrft cost.

Civ 4 duel...both of them start in the hallway, they get to live in the room that they can hold militarily before a space launch!

Person who takes larger room has to agree to do some extra housework chores like take out the trash and vacuum the living room once a week.

drinking contest

ive seen it done, last man standing gets the best room. the first man to fall gets the worst room. it was fugly

and WTF rent split equally?

in the house i jus moved out of, the guy in the smaller room paid less rent, which to me is fair. he gets less living space, therefore pays less for it

you should measure up the total floor space of all the rooms. then work out the ratios of the individual floor space to the total floor space and split the rent in the same way. ie room 3 pays more rent that the other two by fact that it is very much larger

Don't pay equal rent, let each tenant bid on the room they want. Whoever is willing to pay the most gets it. The other guy(s) pay less rent.

The way my roommate and I did it was since I did all the work finding the place, setting up everything (lease, cable, power, insurance, etc...), and whatnot, I got first choice.

Bid on the better rooms.

Guy 1: I'll pay $20 over 1/3 for room A
Guy 2: I'll pay $30 over 1/3 for room A
Guy 3: Nope!
Guy 1: Yeah, me neither.

Guy 1: I'll pay $10 over the remaining 1/2 for room B
Guy 2: I'll pay $20 over the remaining 1/2 for room B
Guy 1: Take it!

How praytell did you get the occupants of Rooms 1 and 2 to agree to split the rent evenly? They're getting severely screwed in that case, especially with Room 3 being what looks to be 3x the size of Room 1 if your image is even close to scale.

I don't see anything good coming out of this one considering the OP is already willing to play favorites and give one of his roommates an edge.
