Beer from a keg as opposed to out of a bottle or a can. Draft beer is better tasting than the bottled or canned stuff.

Its what you buy in a bar, straight from the tap. Its generally cheaper and not as good as the bottled beer from the same company. Occasionally there are exceptions to this.

Hmmmm. We seem to have a discrepency here ;) I think I'll have to agree with Skoorb. At least the "draft" beer that I've had here in Canada is generally not as good as the bottled/canned beer, but that may have something to do with the fact that some bars water their beer down. Bastards! :disgust:

I know that the consensus in Atlantic Canada was that draft was normally inferior in taste. I seem to recall prefering draft Clancys to the bottle; but I think its because the bottled was a bit too strong for me :) Bottled beer was always $3.50 compared to $2.00 or $2.50 for draft and people often went with bottles. It may be different in the US though?

draft beer should be better than bottled.

If it is not, it is usually the fault of the bar, either by

1. Watering down the beer
2. Not taking care of the lines from keg to tap, they need regular cleaning etc.

Unless its a bar I know and trust, I would drink bottled

I don't know what crap you guys have been drinking.

Over here in Wisconsin we have some of the best microbreweries around. Nothing beats a fresh tap beer. Pale ale or Amber, my favorites. Maibock is killer too. We call it "mind block".

Now I want one.

All the commercial tap beers do suck though. It all depends on how fresh the keg is and how clean the tapper lines are. I've seen some pretty gross lines in some bars I used to work in.

I think it can depend on the beer. I know that Guiness tastes like crap out of the bottle/can but is awesome from the tap/draft. Other beers, I tend to prefer bottle due to sanitary reasons (keg lines, glasses, etc...).

The reason bottled beer is more expensive is because it cost more to buy bottled beer.
(the bottleing process/packaging, etc)

It's cheaper to buy beer by the keg, thats why draft beer is cheeper in bars.

It has nothing to do with quality. As a matter of fact, drafts usually taste better.

That's of course if you are going to a quality bar.

There's a bunch of wannabe bars that watter the kegs down

draft beer is the forced enlistment of hops and barley in the effort to stave off sobriety.

YUMMMMM good beer on draft is always better than good beer in a can and usually better than good beer in a bottle. BUT some bars don't know what the hell they are doing and serve draft beer in glasses that haven't had the detergent rinsed from them. That can make a good beer taste yucky fast. Also, keeping those lines clean is important too, but less so than serving the beer in a clean, cold glass mug.

Being a "beer connoisseur" of sorts, I would definately have to say that bottled beer does taste better than keg beer, not alot but some. We get kegs, usually Killians, at least once a quarter and the Killians I get from bottles usually has a better taste than that from the kegs. All the kegs of Budweiser, Gunuiss, Natty Light(Blah blah blah.... the natty = horse piss..... and yes you can get Natty Light in bottles) ;) and ect that I've had and parties and bar all follow the same effect. But for the pure fact that paying the extra money for bottles isn't worth the "slight" difference that you get in taste, I would have to go w/ the keg beer. I'm a poor college student.... I gotta get the more "bang" of your buck :D

99.99999% of the time. I finally got to try Spaten Optimator on tap and it is sweeter out of the keg and I didn't really care for it as much.

Misspelling Guinness takes away any right of yours to call yourself a "beer connoisseur." :)

Don't compare budweiser bottle to budweiser draft. It's like comparing urine in the toilet to urine on the floor.

When drinking quality beer (incl. microbrews), it's always far better on draft. Guinness espescially!

FYI, here's a picture of me at the Guinness Hopstore in Dublin last year. :D

Happy, Drunk, Me

I keep a keg on tap at home always in my keg fridge. Currently, the beer is Michelob Amber Bock.

Acually after thinking about it some more..... I have had some beers that were better from the tap than from the bottle but about 90% of them were imports from Germany whenI had the same beer from a keg when I was a exchange student in Germany.

Agreed.

You guys who prefer bottled / canned beer need to scrape the layer of crap off your toungues or something, draft is MUCH better. You can't beat a keg, baby.
