What's a decent digital camera for ~$100- $200

NFS4

No Lifer
I don't have a lot to spend, but I would like to have a decent digital camera to take pictures. I know that 640x480 is the bare min, but can I get 1024x768 in this price range?

I'll just be using it to take picture for my web page and the usual trips and family/pets kinda stuff.

Big plus if it has a CompactFlash slot 😉

Based on what I've read and personal experience, I'd have to say the Fuji MX-1200 is the best choice for the $200 price point. And it offers slightly higher resolution at 1280x960 than the 1024x768 you mentioned. I believe 4MB (SmartMedia) is supplied standard but I've also seen it available with 8MB...the camera can support up to 64MB cards. Check out the thread http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=40&threadid=187406 where I have a link to a pretty nice pic I snapped with the Fuji.

Best regards,
Floyd

Hehe Floyd's pretty flower picture convinced me to buy the Fuji 🙂

I got it around April '00.

Worked like a charm, took it with me to NYC, to my senior prom, road trips, etc. I've used it to take pictures of my transformer's collection, etc.

Very cool cam 🙂

Don't get the agfa camera. The low end agfa cameras use software tricks to increase the resolution. I have a agfa esmile, it uses a similar type of software and the pictures are hideous. If you look at the CCD resolution under specs section, it'll say 350K. This is good enough for 640x480 and nothing more. A true 1280x960 camera would have a CCD res of over one megapixel, or 1,228,800 pixels to be exact. I realize that 640x480 true resolution is within your specs, but is it a good idea to support a company that is mis-representing their products? Not to mention that you have other alternatives for the same price.

i used to have the fuji and i can say it is a good camera. Sometimes you get some wierd gray blobs (reflection off dust in air) on your pics though since the flash is a little too close to the lens. Other than that its good
