Try the Nexen N5000 from Walmart, $86 and good reviews.

Please don't; Nexen is junk. I had a set of these and the sidewall split on both of them. Found out this was a common problem wioth nexen tires.

I did something like this...My Camry came with a new pair of Sumics up front and old Fuzions at the rear...the SUMIC tires (see above post recommendation) are OEM tires from Toyo...

In any case...the dealer had MISTAKENLY put the new tread up front...so I spent the 1st month calling around to used tire shops for a matching pair of LIKE-NEW PULL OFFS to replace the rear garbage...

That's when a smart kid took a photo of the new Sumics with his phone and took it and me back to the rack and found a matching pair, though branded differently (Doral)...a pair of virtually new tires for $35/ea out the door...

...and I've been pleased with these tires, as already posted...

Just because they look the same doesn't mean they're made the same way. I spent a two hour flight recently talking to a guy that owns tire shop. He said without any doubt that if you want quality tires go with Michelin or Bridgestone or any of the other established makes. Other manufacturers may copy tread designs and such but the real difference is quality of materials and construction. I would not trust my life to cheap tires.

Please don't; Nexen is junk. I had a set of these and the sidewall split on both of them. Found out this was a common problem wioth nexen tires.

Definitely this. Again, I would avoid Chinese tires at all cost. Korea makes some decent tires but some real junk too.

I would look for summer tires with a high treadwear rating although in Dallas you might benefit from all seasons for the cold

Doral and Sumics have the same factory code, same construction markings on the sidewall...same manufacturer, same sales/distribution in the US...my 2 different brands were made only a week apart in the same factory...I'm confident they're identical but for the name.

think im going to go with Michelin-Primacy™ MXV4 since costco has 70 off instant with purchase of 4. plus they use nitrogen.

any thoughts?

I think it's a very sound choice. You just cannot really go wrong with a Michelin.

We just put a set of LTX MS2's on our GX, had the same deal at Sears---the rebate was "instant". Ended up being cheaper to buy them from Sears than order anywhere online, after shipping costs.

Haven't regretted it once.

I believe the MXV4 has been around in various iterations since the late 80's. Its always been a top-rated tire.

I have owned the falken ziex - pure crap. Hated those. Also the yokohoma yk'z someone mentioned - solid tire but short treadlife despite the rating. Was great for about 15k miles then all downhill.

Was about to buy a set of primacy mxv4s which i have also owned before. Be aware that there is more than one current version of this tire. There is a slightly more performance oriented version with a higher speed rating and lower treadlife rating. Either is still a good tire.

But for kicks i am trying out the relatively new Michelin Defender... has a lower speed rating but a 90,000 tread wear rating, which per seems to be legit per early adopters. I got a killer deal from Sears of all places... $530 out the door price including 4wheel alignment, balance, disposal, and taxes. Bought them online using two promos and scheduled the pickup at a store. The appt i made was worthless other than ensuring they had the tires ready to go.

So far.. the first 500 miles the harder rubber gave the (Lexus ES) even more body roll and float than it already has. I almost returned them. But the i hit some kind of break in point and they have been smooth quiet and controlled ever since. Traction is solid but not superior. Would not race or go hard on these... this is a really solid passenger/ commuter tire with hopefully ridiculous tread life.

Just thought i would share. Also apologies for typos... typing on a tablet, which i suck at.

That's pretty common. Most likely mold release agents or other remnants of the manufacturing process wearing off.

Apparently N2 fill reduces the pressure rise with temperature because it tends to have less water content.

This is true, but compressed air can be dried as well for less expense than N2, and the typical temperature rise seen in consumer tires isn't really a big enough deal to justify the added aggravation. If you're racing that's another matter.

Sorry, air is already 70% N2 plus its not like they vacuum all the air out before filling.

5th gear did a quick comparison between N2 and standard fill, all else equal, for a consumer application. Difference = nil.

Silverstone are Chinese/Malaysian and part of Toyo.

Why the advertisement/post?

Part of your post appears to be a copy/paste from here:

Gemstone SP01 tire?

With all respect please note, Toyo only purchased Silverstone 2011, $148 million, and yes I am confident that the Silverstone tyres that I have experienced the last 17 years were made in Malaysia. Silverstone, Asia’s second biggest tyre manufacturer, and I do not connect Gemstone/Toyo with Silverstone, up to 2011, not the good with bad, high tec with low tec.
From Memory 17 years ago I researched Silverstone Silica and Pirelli Silica and from memory they were the same technology, or in fact “ a copied in detail “,
I can only share from my experience, and suggest you try them, Australia has long been stung by poor quality Asian products, (we are right amongst it), but I think they got it right with Silverstone Silica. Only because they copied Pirelli,
Have a nice day,
