Whats a cheap, realiable and fuel efficient car?

I need a fuel economical car,cus it takes me 45 mintue to get to my college.
It also needs to be realiable because after 4 years, there will be alot of mileage on that car.

my budget is 15k usd
 
Those are some good choices, but I think I might actually go for a Ford Focus if you're wanting to buy new. Otherwise, check out some 2000 1.8T Volkswagen GTIs or Golfs. Those are fun/fast/economical/reliable cars! Should be able to pick one up for ~$10-15k. Of the ones you listed, if you're heartset, I'd go for the Mazda.

my mind is kind of set on the corolla, are you guys sure is that bad?
i think the civic looks better though, so i might wait for the 2003 model

i dont want to buy the hybrid civic, since is only a first (2nd?) gen car, i dont think it will be realiable.

i will definetly look for the volks

btw, which car is the most powerful on my list?

the car that i really want is a blue impreza wrx
but since thats too expensive and is not fuel economical
i wont buy it..sigh......
 
don't get the Protege, it may look nice but I would prefer a Honda or Toyota,

the 2003 Corolla is quite nice and look Elegant. I like it, I would prefer that coz Matrix looks "too sporty" (if there's ever such a thing). I am getting too old now, (20), and a sedan would fit me fine (I am driving a 96 celica hatchback). 😛
unless you want the cargo space and looks, Matrix would be a better choice.
btw: Matrix shares the same engine with the Celica.

the Civic HX manuel gets like 42 free mpg, that would be a good choice too. but I think the new corolla looks a lot better.

and don't go for Euro cars, they are hella expensive to maintain, parts and labor are costly for those. and don't get me wrong, Euro makes good cars, but they just expensive.

 
hybrids are quite expensive
and i dont trust them, since they are so new

I was being sarcastic of course about being old.

and about the matrix/celica = stronger than corolla,
10-15 horsepower probably won't mean anything in daily commute, but a few mpg would in a long run
 
just checked on the toyota website

the matrix and protege has the same hp as the corolla

but the corolla is more fuel efficient

well 3 are ugly and the other is a reliable as hell honda. i know which i'd pick. civic coupe isn't as good looking as the previous one, but its still nicer than those other things that have bits of plastic hanging at weird angles all over the car.
 
Honda Civic HX manual. 117 HP (for bragging rights, this one does have VTEC), good looking standard alloy wheels, 44 MPG EPA highway (tested higher in real life by my sister in her 2001 HX), MSRP: about $14,000.

My sister added AC and a CD player to hers and she still got it for about $14,400. The only other option to recommend is keyless entry for a couple hundred.

The one and only drawback to the HX is that you need to crank the windows yourself, not the biggest deal if you ask me, there are only 2 windows. It still has cruise and power locks.

Scrap the list and set your sights higher......







Go for a fleet of 1991 Ford Festivas! 40+ MPG, most will last 150-175K, cheap maintenance. They may be ugly and a modified tin can, but I love my Festiva!😀
