Ehhh...you must be thinking of another car. A non-turbo 3000GT/Stealth would have a hard time out running a Corolla. My friend had a base model 3000GT and he couldn't break out of the 17's in the 1/4 mile at the local track.

Do they make a turbo? Because it defintely responded better than a corolla?

Yeah, they made a turbo. Twin turbo, IIRC. The AWD system on those added a lot more weight to what was already a fat pig of a sporty car.

yea, the sky looks pretty cool

When the Solstice GXP and Sky Redline come out, it'll be like the Impreza vs. the WRX/STI. Slow now, but not for long. 🙂

toyota celica..."looks fast"

Definitely looks faster than it is. I was washing mine, when my neighbor came over and said it looks like it can fly - then I pointed out that the evo across the street is actually quite a bit faster, and he gave me the most confused look and said "that one? are you SURE?"

That being said, the GT-S is pretty much as fast as the new Civic Si, which everyone seems to be jizzing all over themselves about around here.

I use to have a 95 Base 3000GT (222HP, auto) and it ran 15.89@89.99MPH (stock) at Rockingham.
I traded that in for a 2000 Lightning which I miss dearly. 🙁

But yeah the Base model Stealth and Base Model 3000GT after 1996 were 167HP instead of the 222HP engine I had so they're slower. And obviously the AWD Twin Turbo models (Stealth TT, 3000GT VR4) were significantly faster.

What track? Autocross? Nurburgring? The drag strip that most people who really do race go to?

I guess you can make that assumption....

Pitting a beast of a truck against a sport compact in a drag literally means nothing more than that you have a bigger engine....

An STI will out run an SRT-10 Ram. It's about HP/lb, the ability to hook up, and the total torque curve. My little 4.7 CC Dakota can outrun a QC Rumble Bee (provided I don't miss the 2-3 upshift) even though I'm at a 115HP disadvantage. Why? Because I have about a 1300LB advantage.

Edit:
And I made that assumption, because every wednsday night there's a couple hundred cars at my local drag strip.

Can you say that about most autocross or road racing facilities?

No kidding. Then how can you call a miata slow.

I didn't.

My vote is anything that honda makes.

If you disagree then you are probably looking at ones that have close to their retail value in upgrades.

3000GT falls in the same category as Supra, 300ZX, and RX-7. All slow cars.
Huh? I belive he was referring to the NON-DSM Eclipses...which are N/A V6s and are slow as ******.

Forgot to contribute:

Mecury Cougar
Even those are fairly quick. GT-S 0-60mph is 6.7s. GT is 6.9s.

The lightning would take out the miata's ECU and the car would die. 😛

i'd say the celica GT, the hyundai triburon, and yes, the sexy but sucks royally new mercury cougar.

and yes the eclipse GTS does 0-60 in the 6's, all without a turbo.

Definitely the non turbo 3000GT/Stealth. Heavy FWD turds that people always think are fast.

non-turbo 3000GT is FWD? I thought it was RWD, just not very powerful.

all 3000GT's are 4WD. you guys have no clue... but then for those, they have around 225bhp in the year of 1992 or so. that's muscle car territory.

Not in the USA - they were FWD for the non turbos. Japan had AWD NAs.

Not always.

What do a 300 HP Supra, a 500 HP Supra, an 800 HP Supra, and a 1000 HP Supra have in common?

They all run 1/4's in the 13's!

true true 🙂

Just remember though. All cars are not created equal. What you may think is slow for dragging, could be a monster for autox.
