whats a better word for server/waitress to put on a resume

depends on the responsibilities. hostess works, but its usually the job of the "hostess" that actually does greet'n'meet.

Waitress is the job, there's no better word. You don't want to confuse them.

i don't see what's wrong with server/waitress... it's not like they aren't going to be able to tell that she was a waitress if you give it some fancy name

Use a thesaurus and find the most formal sounding one

a hostess is someone who stands at the door and seats people at the tables
if you put hostess, it will look worse than putting down server.
and use server, its more or less the more accepted term over waitress these days.

So if I put that I managed servers on my resume, do you think they will understand it?

I have managed a restaurant, but also have a degree in computer networking, which do you think they will think of when I say servers?

You don't impress anyone by using an obviously trumped up fake title for a low profile job. They will see through it. Say what it is....Restaurant Server. If it is totally not relevant and beneath what she is applying for...just leave it off entirely.
