What're some great all wheel drive cars?

I sort of like the idea of owning an all wheel drive car, just wondering what models would be available. I don't I'd buy a brand new one, depending on how much it costs I suppose.
Here's all I can come up with off the top of my head, there must be tons more:

Subaru WRX(a little pricey for me though)
Eagle Talon TSi
Toyota Celica All-Trac


Is there anything in development like a stock all wheel drive Focus(Colin McRae's ride makes me jealous), or VW Golf or something?

Most people I know of with Subaru Legacy/Outback with boxer engine is quite happy with it's AWD performance.
 
Oh ya, I forgot about the Stealth R/T. I'd like something that could chip, maybe spin, all four tires from a stop, and look good doing it.
 
An older Subaru that most people have forgotten was the SVX. It was an AWD (of course) coupe which was supposed to be both sporty and somewhat luxurious. It sold poorly so Subaru quickly discontinued it, though.
 
Don't buy the All-Trac or Talon. They're uber expensive to do any transmission work on. And the new WRX looks fugly IMHO. Get an older Impreza 2.5RS. Cheap, reliable and somewhat fun to drive. Other than that there aren't really any good AWD cars in your price range. (From the list of cars you gave).

The SVX was a failure because it was a boat. And IIRC it was only offered in automatic. (Not to sure about that one)
 
Was 98 the first year of the newer style Imprezza? If I could find one in the $15K-17K range, I suppose I'd consider that particular model. I actually like the look of the late model Imprezza moreso even than the WRX.
I guess anything between $5K-$15K would be ideal, but I'm sure a premium must be paid for the rare all wheel drive cars. Maybe it'll just be a passing fancy.

Subies will be your cheapest bet, and still a reliable car. Older Audi's are nice, but tend to have electrical problems. I don't think VW had any AWD cars here from ~92 till 2000. 3000GT VR-4 is a sportscar, and has all those sports car problems 🙂. Same with the AWD talons/eclipses. They have a problem with their trannies called crankwalk. The AWD Celicas were overweight and underpowered and not very popular, so no aftermarket. The Subaru SVX was never offered in a manual (thumbs down).

Best bet is an older Subie or an Audi 80 or 100. Maybe an old 4000S for a real beater.

The Lamborghini Murcielago comes with AWD 😀. Maybe you should consider that?
