What're some good horror movies

ok, so my gf was born on a Friday the 13th, so whenever one comes around it's like a mini-holiday for her, we usually celebrate by watching horror movies of some kind. Aside from the obvious (Nightmare on Elm St., Friday the 13th) what're some good horror movies to watch? We did Vampire movies for the previous Friday the 13th (last month).

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) freaked the hell out of me, mostly because the old 16mm film they shot it on has a raw, home video feel to it.

Someone mentioned 1408 in another thread. Give it a look if you haven't seen it.

common big name flicks:
the shining -- tense
the exorcist -- not for the quezy
the omen -- dramatic scary
halloween -- run-for-your-life scary

lessor known:
rosemary's baby -- thoughtful omg scary
pumpkinhead -- freaky
delicatesen -- dark, kinda funny weird
may -- introspective

A lot of good recommendations here already.

The Dawn of the Dead remake is quite good as was 28 Days Later. I just re-watched Event Horizon again (on Blu-ray now) and I still believe this is an extremely underrated sci-fi horror flick.

The Descent was decent, High Tension was full of tension and high on blood, The Strangers was a little odd but creepy and not too bad, Inside is on the list of a few that are "in the know" and I would recommend it as well.

Very good choice...I second.

Also, from the comedy zombie genre "Return of the Living Dead" was pretty entertaining and of course, "Shawn of the Dead."

Hahahaha to the person who said Sleepaway Camp. I hope you mean the original and not the remake. Also check out Sleepy Hollow. It's not scary, but a classic imo.

Very few....

Alien (not aliens, alien3, alien resurrection, or alien vs predator)
The Ring (not ringu, or ring 2)
The Shining (Kubrick ONLY)
Night of the Living Dead (Original ONLY)
Event Horizon
Saw (not 2 3 4 or 5)

LOL@

Halloween (any)
Friday the 13th (any)
Delicatessan WTF!?!?! Great flick, soooo not a horror movie. Were you tripping when you saw it?
Serpent and the Rainbow (wow bad)
TCM (any)
Pumpkinhead (are fucking serious?)
Abros Los Ojos (turned into vanilla sky, and again, soooo not anything like a horror movie)

I invite you people that made these recommendations to go back and watch them yourself before you suggest someone else subject themselves to them. That should remove your nostalgia.

i can name tons not to see but for what to watch i suggest zombie genre. 28 days later, dawn of the dead (remake) though the original is classic, if you want comedy horror. There is a badly dubbed japanese movie called Bio-Zombie which is one of my faves.
