hmm. there was just a thread about a "new" 3-D desktop interface a couple days ago. I still don't see the point.

Flopped. It sucked anyway. I played with it for a couple weeks. Nothing really innovative about it, and it wasn't really much of a modeling language.

As I remember the Plugins all sucked horribly. I've never had a simulated 3D environment feel less 3D than with those interfaces. The fact that goofy little 3D worlds are rarely the best way of expressing web content probably didn't help.

Didnt people have grand visions of having "online malls" that you could walk around in and all that crap? Who in their right mind thought that anyone would want to do that? I vote that it really had no purpose.

Actually, I can see an online game like that actually take off amongst the female and metero population. Imagine a game like the Sims, where you could take your person out shopping . . . and stuff you buy gets shipped to you.

They'd have to tie-in with Amazon of something. I know people who'd play it.
