probably the steering pump working hard because the tire isn't rolling enough to keep the friction low.

Hmmm. I thought about that but the noise is different. I know the steering pump noise when I hear it. I don't even have to turn the wheel very hard for it to start.

do you have the 2.2 or 2.4L? is the power steering pump running off of the intake cam(instead off off of the belt) because i have a 2.4L in my alero and i swear it's the noisiest power steering pump i have ever heard. it groans at every movement, and makes the engine drop a few hundred rpm at idle to move the wheel. giant POS.

I have the 2.2L.

MY PSP was recently replaced! I should have mentioned that.

One last bump for suggestions. I'm taking it into the dealer tomorrow after work so I can hopefully get a diagnosis from them and maybe get my car in for work on Tuesday.

My guess is its the differential going out.

The differential on front wheel drive cars is integrated with the tranny housing. Since these cars are not LSD, when you spin one wheel more than the other for a bit, the differential will grenade after a short ammount of time.

Could also be a CV joint, but my guess is your differential is on its way out.
