I bought the case online, the mobo/cpu/nic here on AT and vid card on another forum. Then I used a spare CRT, keyboard, mouse and dvd-rom.

I decided to make my little girl a PC for her birtday. She's 5yrs old now. She likes care bears and pink is her favorite color. Slapped it together in about 1 week. Runs like a champ!

Parts:
AMD Duron 1.2Ghz Socket A ---------------------- $20
Biostar M7VIG Socket A Mobo -------------------- $20
2x256MB Crucial ----------------------------------- $ 50
40GB Western Digital HD ------------------------- $20
Nvidia FX 5200 video card ------------------------ $30
Plextor 708A DVD ROM----------------------------- free
Black A301BG Mini-ATX tower Computer ------- $25
17" HP CRT Monitor -------------------------------- free
Keyboard / Mouse ---------------------------------- free
Paint, Sandpaper and Supplies -------------------- $35
Red Neon Light -------------------------------------- $5
Plexiglass Window ---------------------------------- $3
Custom Made Care Bear Inkjet Hobby Decal ---- $9
1 week labor/ordering, assembly and painting ---- :)

Seeing your little girls smile -------------------- PRICELESS!!! :)

You can see the completed job in my sig down below. LMK whatcha think! :p

Nice.
I have often fantasized about building a nice little Duron System for dirt cheap.
Maybe keep it for myself. Maybe give it away to somebody who needs it.

Just by using Pricewatch.com I found I could make a complete system for $175, and it would run Windows 2000 and Office 2000 very well.

Definetly a good idea. I'm actually running XP Pro!

I'm going to teach her from an early age pink != cool. then I don't have to worry about making pink computers for her heheh.

Hm... you know, the kids have both a PC and a Mac downstairs, and I haven't modded either one, and both have birthdays in the next few months...

AWESOME!!!!

Having a little girl myself... I can really appreciate the effort you put into it.

Like, if you come to my house... The nicest room is my girl's bedroom. New paint, chair rail, new outlet covers, etc. :) Little girls are fun to spoil. :D

Nice. Did you paint that yourself Humble? Airbrushed?

I basically went to a R/C Car Hobby shop and picked up this inkjet paper that you can print on. After that, you shoot some clear coat on the paper. After it dries really good, usually 2 hours or so, you dip it in water and the decal slides off. I cut the decal first though, the bear and the stars are cut out of an 8 x 11 sheet of paper. Then I dipped each piece into water, slid the decal off and applied it to the side. I smoothed it out to remove any bubbles and trapped air. Than I let it dry for a day. Next day I shot some clear on the side panel to seal the decal onto the case.

Anyone who has ever applied decals on a model car knows what I mean.

Painted it by hand with acryllics. I 've always wanted to do the decal thing but never got around to figuring out how. I need to look into what you did. Looks nice.
