curious as to why you hate the graphic style?
You've probably heard this before, but the graphic style, for both D3 and SC2, reminds me way too much of WoW. The graphic art is way too cartoony and blocky not simply for my taste, but for what I feel belongs in the game.
SC was a game with loads of colors, but it was still pretty gritty even with it's 2d graphics. Diablo I and II had less color and more grit, but D3 reminds me too much of WoW in both it's character design and graphical representation.
I'm not one of those gamers that hates color and fears 'childlike' graphics while putting the colors brown, grey, and dark red on a pedestal, but I feel almost as if the style of these two sequels is not befitting of it's predecessors.
With Starcraft 2, I can probably get used to the new look quickly as I become immersed in the fluid animations and intricate balance that is Starcraft.
However, I don't it will be as easy to move on in Diablo 3. A lot of Diablo's enjoyment for me was looking at my character as well as the bloody scenery around me.
As far as the character design, I think they are changing too many things in an attempt to make things 'look cool', which is understandable.
And example is the new dark templar look. The dark templar used to be barely dressed in light cloth, and this is no longer the case, as it shouldn't be. With the acceptance of the dark templar through the events of Brood Wars, they should be fully assimilated into the ranks of the Protoss by now, meaning they should be donned in similar gold armor as the rest of the Protoss.
However, in starcraft 2 the dark templar are donned in some ridiculously grim outfit that is, if I remember correctly, made from dead zerg carapace! Why the hell would they wear that? They never wore zerg carapace in the past, which they easily could have, and now they wear such a thing which should readily be discouraged by the Protoss society. And what the hell is up with those double bladed scythe thing? What kind of dumb weapon is that?
Anyway, I won't ever know for sure until I play the game, and I'll definitely be getting both games. Blizzard hasn't disappointed me with their (not including WoW) games in the past, so I have no reason to hesitate on buying.
