What You Guys Think of Helio

I was wondering what people on AT thought about the Helio service. Their new device, the Ocean, looks pretty sweet. I need a new phone this summer and I want something with web-surfing/IM/all that good stuff and the iPhone might be a bit out of my price range. Also, the iPhone looks like it might be kinda big as just a phone. But Helio's new device, the Ocean, looks really good.

The dual slide is really nice. But you need to use their service, which is on the Spring network. So I was wondering what people thought of Helio/Sprint.

I have worked with these devices for a while now. They aren't the most durable or trustworthy and they need to be on an odd network :x They are okay devices, but i would be leery about the service. There are other phones out that are more compact and do about the same thing.

The Samsung version that is coming out later this year is what I'll be going after.

But I would definitely get the Helio over the Iphony.

Meh, I know nothing about them.

Am I the only person these days who uses my cellphone for like, phonecalls, and all that?

I have a KRZR. I do take the occasional picture with it, but other than that, I just use it as a phone.

I'm perfectly happy with my w810i which does anything and everything I want in a phone, and has also completely replaced my iPod.

Frankly I think CDMA sucks after going from Verizon to Cingular I don't foresee myself making the change back to CDMA. Otherwise this would have caught my interest

Maybe its because your phone is merely incapable, or performs other functions poorly. Phones are becoming integrated devices because thats what 90% of people want - a lot of them just don't know it yet because their incapable of using a lot of the functions - or because carriers like Verizon and Sprint severely limit the amount of things you can do on a phone in regards to homebrew and the like.

Camera's once they become higher quality will be very nice on a phone - and being able to check email really quick when your not around a computer is very nice. Most people don't know what they're missing until they use it. I'm always checking sports scores, or the weather. And I don't know how people can get along using an iPod now that so many phones perform the iPod functions so well. Thats just me, but its also becoming the vast majority in the marketplace. Once you catch up you'll realize that you have no clue why you took so long

So, how do you like Cingular compared to Verizon? Is Cingular getting better?

I prefer my cellphone for calls too... Form over function. When I purchased my phone, it was the thinnest you could buy, it's still pretty far up there on the list... Samsung t610
