OK, as long as we're on VTEC, who here know what it stands for? I'll post the answer in a while.

Hint: VTEC does not include the first letter of all the words from which the acronym is derived.

Variable Value Timing and Lift Electronic Control System - VTEC
I think that is right, can't remember exactly.

Wow, I really didn't expect people to get it that fast. Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control is absolutely correct. VVTLEC doesn't exactly roll off the tongue however. ;) Best implementation in my mind has got to be in the S2000, 240hp from a 2.0 litre engine, and naturatly aspirated at that. I want an S2000 so bad, unfortunately, college is expensive and I'll have to hold on to my 88 Accord LX-i as a primary car for a while longer.

I'm pretty sure it was standard on the Accord EX & Civic EX after 94 an it's standard on all the new vehicles except for the DX and HX.

Ya, the S2000 is a sweet car. I am a big fan of the sound it makes. What I don't like is the instrument cluster. I wish they had gone with a big old, center mounted, analog tac like you see in 911's. If I were in the market for a two seater I might be tempted to go for the S2000...unless BMW were to put the M3 3.6L, 333hp, I-6 into the M-roadster:)

A co-worker of mine just bought a S2000, yellow with a black top. Sweet car, but I need more HP...., that's just me.

hm. know whats weird? my friends 93 civic EX can leave my 93 accord SE in the dust. i assume it's both VTEC and her engine aint even modified. i would like to assume that accords have more power than civics. thats so sad. i need a tune up.

No doubt, the push button was a nice touch:) I love the silky smooth 6-spd geer box. I think it might even rival the M5's 6-spd...or maybe even...*GASP*... the 911's. Being possibly the biggest BMW fan in all of the world you don't know how hard it was for me to admit that!

hoeboy:
i can't tell u the power to weight ratio of a civic to an accord off the top of my head, but i can tell u that the civic has 125 hp, while your accord has 145 hp. there is a few hundred pounds at the least seperating the weight of the two.
oh, is the civic a stick?? i know the accord isnt, cuz the se was available only auto. that could be the whole difference, esp if the civic driver really knows how to drive stick.

Why imports? Everyone should have brute American strength... The V8. Your gonna spend many a thousand to get a 4 banger to even mess with a slightly modified V8.

Why imports? Because they are more reliable. Once apon a time, ie 1986, my dad bought a 325i BMW. At the time it cost him $20,500. The Ford Taurus my mother got the next year was $12,500. Since then, the BMW has needed some repairs, bringing the total cost of ownership (without gas or insurance) to around 28,000. The Taurus needed replacing 5 years after it was bought, and another 4.5 years after that. The second one cost 16,500 and the third $17,500. The total cost of ownership was equal to 46,500. The milage per year was almost 100% identical for both drivers. My dad has had company cars that were american for years and they have all been pieces of crap. Honda's happen to be some of the most reliable cars in the world, period. How many american cars see 300,000+ miles like many accords I have seen? On top of that, no American made V8 can touch the BMW 5.5L 394hp V8 or the AMG Mercedes 5.5L V8. That is why the BMW M5 (only comes in 6-spd manual) is the fastest sedan in the world and the Mercedes is the fastest auto sedan in the world (no manual option). The M5 can even beat a Corevette to 60 and beyond...while holding the wife, 3 kids, and a weeks worth of groceries.

^^^ PLEASE don't use Phord as a symbol of American Quality. Those Taurus' sucked so bad in terms of reliability.

The Mustang is really the only Ford I'd ever buy...

OMG are you in like 30 or 40 and own a 60-70's muscle car or something? Cuz only those kind of people say "gimme a good ol american v8". Well i hate to say it but i prefer an import with a 4/6 cylidenr engine rather than an american v8 with cavalier/sunfire like fit and finish.

My Civic EX gets 35-43 on the highway, 25-34 city.

My Chevelle (1967) gets about 10 either way.

I wouldn't trade the fun of a v8 for anything, but I don't take any trips in it either.

Both have their place.

My roomate's '71 Chevelle got 6mpg;). I don't think the NSX can touch him with 550hp and 315's on the back, hehe...
