Building a computer for college.. so the computer I'm on right now will stay with my family..

Anyways, what CPU should I get? What seems to be yielding good OC'ing from newegg?

Sort of off topic, but what would be a good motherboard to go with it as well? Thanks.

Well, unless you want to unlock your Athlon XP cpu, you aren't going to get much overclocking out of it.
Your best bet to overclock is to go with a P4b cpu now, particularly the 2.26b or higher.

Dude are you on Crack just because you can O/C the cpu a full gig doesnt mean that the P4 works better

id rather spend 130 for a Athlon XP 2k than $235 for a 2.26
for the mad knights sake the XP has more bang for your buck!

Imported do you want a god or a nice comp

God:xp 2k1
nice:xp 1800

you are going to college, but what are you using the computer for? computer games? computer programming? movie rendering? writing papers and surfing the web? what computer is best for you depends on what you think you will be doing. if you are just going to write papers and go to the library to study, i would recommend a laptop. it should be viable for 4 years for surfing and typing. if you play games, then a desktop with a good video card would be called for. if you render movies or do serious crunching, then you are looking at a beefed up CPU. if you just want something that looks cool, i'm putting the finishing touchs on all-lucite clear computer. athlon xp 1600+ (unclocked to 1500+). nforce mobo, 60GB hard drive, CDRW, DVD, and LED fans. $650 shipped.

I agree with yodayoda. What are you going to use your computer for? If it's for gaming you probably want to go with a good video card a Ti4200, and the best deal in Athlon XP is the XP1800+. You can go online and check the anandtech value gaming or value soho. That should give you a good idea of what to get.

Basically everything I do now.. which includes gaming, photoshop, net use, papers, etc.. I have an 2000+ in my current computer but that'll be staying home most likely for my folks.

I'd like to spend $100 or less.. looking at the 1600-1800s really.
