What would you want on your portable PC?

Hey all -

I'm currently playing around with programming on the PocketPC. I'd really like to write something that had some value to it. I've written a lot of software for other platforms, but this is my first "portable program." So, what do you wish your PocketPC/WinCE device could do?

I would rather write something that other people could conceivably use, so I'd welcome any ideas on what to write. I figure Pocket Word, Pocket Outlook, etc, already exist, so I shouldn't bother writing something like that.

Any ideas would be welcome! Of all the people I've asked so far, only my girlfriend has been firm -- she wants a Minesweeper clone... I'll do that unless something better comes up!

Thanks,
Nevyn

PS: Hey, if you guys want a game multipack, I can swing that, probably... but that's hopefully not your first choice!

not very useful, but my friends always loved a program i had called gaydar, which sent a IR beam, and if it bounced back, you were consider homosexual. Interesting, but offensive to some =].

If this thread gets any traffic, you better put a flame retardent suit on iamwiz...

edit: forgot the smilie 🙂

Viper, I have been pondering that for some time now... I take a C++ course at my highschool, and the cisco academy program at my vocational tech school, and that cisco course has a LOT of subnet junk in it....

good idea 🙂

They don't have remote control software for PPC's? I know they have it for Palms. It would be really cool to have it in color though, with skins, etc. 🙂

This one would be difficult, but a nice graphing calculator with the power of the PowerPC would kick ass and save me some $.

tomcat--I always wondered why there weren't graphing calculator apps for Palms and PPCs. Of course, there might be, but I've never run across them. Good suggestion...but it would be pretty hard. :Q

Yeah, remote control sounds good. I had one that worked - ok on my Jornada 430se (WinCE 2.11?) but it was kinda weird to program. Make sure you have a really good interface for recording the ir commands, or most people won't use it. I can't remember the name of the program, but it had a different apps to record commands and another one to send the IR commands.

Graphing calculator sounds good.
So does a remote.

How about something to help out the students (especially college). 🙂 Pick a popular course, and make a program for it. 🙂 I'm sure tons of college students would thank you! 😉
