Question What would you upgrade with a small budget?

HDD: 2TB storage, 500gb ssd games, 500gb ssd boot
Case: HTPC - Silverstone GD09
Monitors: Asus 24" 1920x1080 x 3 - surround (game on one) 60hz

Games played:
PUBG
Call of Duty Franchise
World of Tanks
Battlefield Series

I built the system probably 9 to 10 years ago and don't have a ton of money to spend on upgrades. Would it be viable to put $500 into an upgrade for the system?
I get decent frame rates at 1920 x 1080 with graphics turned down fairly low, but wondering if I can get into the 144 hz club without killing my budget.

Your GPU should have plenty horsepower to run, but its driver ruins it. Just like in this review.

My cheap solution is to overclock your CPU to around 4.0-4.2 GHz and for cheap GPU recommendation is probably GTX 1660 Super or RX 5600 XT.

No, not really. You would need a complete overhaul, of both platform (mobo/RAM/CPU), and GPU, to hit the 144Hz (steady) club.

Look at the Ryzen R7 3700X, Ryzen R9 3900X, or the Intel 9900KS, if you want a serious AAA game 144Hz PC. (High frame rates are dependent not only on a strong GPU, but also a strong CPU.)

You're going to want to upgrade your MB, CPU, GPU (and in turn, ram)

you can try to reuse some stuff: PSU, Case (maybe), HDD/SSD), monitor.

I'd go with the AMD 3600 or 3600x, and spend a $300 for a video card for 1080p gaming @ 144hz.

I was looking at the following, but it does increase my budget.

Shows an estimated $918 for all the parts but from my own research I can get it for closer to $880. (I set the ram to 16gb kit but it's keeping the 32gb kit for some reason)

If I leave out the monitor that gets me down to $770, then if I take out the nvme I'm looking at $650.

My current monitor is 60 hz and I really wanted one that would do more if I'm going for closer to 120-144 fps.

I was thinking the 3600X because it comes with a better cooler and is clocked higher by default, but it is also 95w.

I can sell my cpu/mobo/ram/cooler combo for around $150.
My EVGA 780 FTW is probably worth $50.
I also have an HAF 932 case in the corner that needs new fans I can sell.

Interesting, I didn't know that MSI had come out with a "MAX" version of their B450M Pro-VDH board. Would make a nice little APU rig. It does even have a heatsink on the main VRM section too, very nice! Thanks!

Looks like my budget is up to $1000 now. I've been researching AMD quite a bit through reviews and benchmarks and the consensus is the drivers are extremely flaky. I went through that before with the 5870 and do not want to go back to those issues.

Looking at the benchmarks the 2060 non super doesn't seem that much slower than the super version. I would consider it if you can find a good deal
