What would you swap out?

Looking for opinions:

Abit IC7
P4C 2.4 @ 3.15ish (263) @ 1.675v BIOS
OCZ Gold PC4000 running 1:1 at 3-4-8-8 @ 2.8 Vdimm

Kinda want to make a change to my rig... Want to stay P4, but I'm not sure if I should go for tighter timings, or try to find a 2.4 or 2.6 that will run a higher FSB. yeah, I know any change might be marginal, but I'm bored ;)

Any suggestions welcome, thanks

Duvie has proven that running async with tigher timings is more beneficial than running in sync with very loose timings, such as the ones you're running at. However... these companies don't guarantee that if you reduce the speed of the RAM, you'll be able to reduce the timings... so your PC4000 may not run at CL 2 even at 100 Mhz. I'd at least try it out though... see if you can't run 2.5-3-3-8 with a 5:4 divider... if you can, then maybe try for 2-3-3-8.

I haven't really tweaked my sticks, but I do recall them not really liking lower latencies. Hrmmm... Maybe I should read up on some RAM and find what will run tight timings at around 220 MHz... Been out of the loop recently. Only thing that kinda bugs me about the IC7 is 2.8 is going to be my max Vdimm.

Both Corsair XMS PC3200 and Kingston HyperX PC3200 usually will do 2-3-3-6 at 220fsb.

That's a pretty nice rig to be swapping out any of the parts you listed.

Maybe you just need to mod the case to keep your mind off the other parts. :) New quieter fans, maybe some LEDs, some variable resistors for fan speed control. Stuff like that.

yep :)
Hey, who do you think told me about them? ^^^^^ I remember people who help me, even though I can't remember what I had for breakfast.:( AND, with so many unknowledgeable people around, you should have no problem at all selling that ram you have for close to what it will cost you to buy new XMS or HyperX PC3200.:D

Ok, here is what I would do. Sell your ram and your CPU... you should have almost enough to get you a 2.8MO AND get some lower latency ram to boot! Best of both worlds!

That's a good idea... I may just do that...

Do you guys have any more info/links/threads on the M0 stepping of the P4--I guess I have not heard about this "chip" before and am curious as I have been very disappointed with the overclockability of my 2.8C?

The 2.4 M0 and the 2.8 M0 are the exact same core as the 3.2EE, so they overclock better than any other steppings of the P4C's. People are running the 2.8's at 3.5 at or near stock voltages, and some are getting higher than that with good air cooling.

But of course the extra cache is disabled? Otherwise sounds interesting--how can you tell for certain that it is in fact an M0 beforeyou buy it as zipzoomfly did not specify any additional information about the chip?

Well, getting one from ZipZoomFly may not be possible now. It's been known in the overclocking circles that they had them for at least 2 weeks. Try calling them, and have one of their reps go look, and see what steppings they have in stock of 2.8C's now.
