The only terms the Chinese would take would be full surrender of the nation to them, to become part of China. This would be unacceptable to South Korea and would not fly in America either. We would be seen, correctly, as being China's military handmaiden.

The Chinese also won't allow it to happen because it would be an attack against "communism" by the USA.

You can forget about this happening. It won't. The only thing that would ever take out the North Korean leadership is China itself. If Trump shreds our alliances with South Korea and Japan (among others) as promised then maybe they'll do it. As far as I know, though, North Korea is resource-poor so there is little incentive for China to do it.

Plus, they can point to it as a nation that fights the good fight for communism against the mighty oppressive Western economic hegemony. Plus, North Korea is apparently resource-poor enough to not be valuable enough to bother to take in the first place.
