I am getting all kinds of quotes. cheapest is 164+ tax + 15 for moulding.. the next best option is 212 installed.

The most expensive that says uses OEM windshields is 300 installed.

My ford focus windshield has dots on the top and bottom.. not sure what those are for. Can I just any plain windshield. or windshield all of them have them. Should I just go with the 164 one?

ask for OEM MOULDING. i talked to the guy who did mine. glass is glass, oem or not. the moulding is what is key. it was originally done with OEM glass and aftermarket moulding, the aftermarket moulding looked like crap and didn't cover all the seams. after i called him out a couple times, he told me to always specify OEM moulding, OEM and aftermarket glass is essentially the same, aftermarket might even be thicker. eventually, got it re-done with aftermarket glass and OEM moulding. much happier now.

but don't you have to pay a deductable? my colleague in nj had the same problem, and when i told him about insurance (i thought it was free for something like this) he told me he was told that he'd have to pay the deductable, and that just didn't make sense...

my car's been driven 6k miles in 2 months and it already has a ton of chips on the windshield, would be awesome if i could get it fixed free :D

Tough call.

In general you get what you pay for when it comes to replacing a windshield. Factory parts fit better. Your main concern should be the warranty they give you on the seal. You don't want to have water or wind getting in after the job is done. No matter which one you go with, expect to get a rock chip within days if not hours to getting it replaced. It some rule of nature or something hehe

I had it done for about $90 once - from a junkyard. Eh, it never leaked and was fine, but it's probably too risky.

I got mine done last summer for about $200. Was really the best price after calling around. Had to be done.

There is a big price diff between OEM and regular glass. I am trying to figure out if I should go with OEM glass or not. I will ask for OEM moulding.

My deductible is 250.. the not worth thru insurance.

Usually there is no deductible for this.

yeah, ask for OEM moulding, you might want to find out who is the windshield supplier for ford focus, and goto a place that uses that brand of windshield. my toyota uses PPG glass, so I went to a place that sales PPG glass. The PPG windshield that I got is the same one as OEM, even had a toyota logo (they try to melt the logo away, but you can still make out the toyota logo underneat it).

$164-200 ain't bad.

I replaced a windshield once... went to the junkyard and bought one for like $40 and used some MD silicone and it worked perfect. I couldn't find any place at the time that would do it for less than $400-500 and it just didn't seem worth it. $40 seemed worth it though. :D

Just had one put in my truck. $163, out the door. One thing to check is the type of sealant they use. You'll want "carlex".

0. iirc it was even free for the hard top rear window/tailgate glass on my old jeep. I closed the thing and it went bang! and shattered into a million pieces. I was like, wtf.

Yeah, I've read its very expensive for my Subaru as well since it has heating elements to deice the wipers.

Replaced it myself. Cost of glass from JC Whitney, ran 18 gauge wire around the seal, had my brother hold it in place while I pulled the wire, popped right into place.

On a modern car, I would go OEM everything and make sure it is done well. The windshild often serves as a structural element for the car and plays a role in the proper function of the passenger airbag.

BTW, is it necessary to have collision on your auto insurance to have your windshield replaced free?
