well for me, the OS would be the first to go... but linux and games don't mix so well...

Hardware-wise, maybe a GF4 Ti4200 and a faster CPU (that board supports XPs?)

I could add an XP if I do a bios upgrade first.

I am happy with my OS and won't change it:)

Looks like video card upgrade must be first but I want the best meaning ATI 9500pro or 9700pro for me.

1. Replace the kyro with a geforce 4 or (slower) 5, unless you want the dustbuster-XL to terrify your pets ;)

2a. Faster mobo / CPU
2b. XP Pro is a slightly better gaming OS than 2k, and if you're replacing the mobo and vid you'll probably want a clean OS install anyway.

3. another 512 MB RAM for memory pigs like SimCity 4 and BF1942

Having a high-end video card doesn't do a horrible amount of good if the CPU's holding it back.

I'd grab something like the GeForce4 4200 (a little more than $100) to tide you over for a few months, then do a major upgrade, as the rest of your system isn't too bad at all.

oops my bad, i would do the mobo and cpu.

Definetly the video card is you're a gamer.

You can probably do it under 200

Video card for sure, cpu is optional(wouldn't hurt), bigger hard drive is recommended, motherboard not really necessary.

GeForce 4 (whatever, except MX) or Radeon 9500Pro(could go for a 9700 Pro).

I'd start with the video card.
(Probably a 128MB Ti4200, or if you have lots of $$, that speedy lil' ATI)

then MoBo/CPU, but they really aren't bad as is
