Today I went to Fry's to see if they had any combo deals on cpu and mobo's and saw that they had this deal.
Phenom II 720BE
BIOSTAR A760G M2+ AM2+/AM2 AMD 760G Micro ATX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813138138
$169
They also had a 4gb kit of kingston HyperX 1066 DDR2 for $50 which was cheaper than newegg so I bought that.
Now I was really wanting to pull the trigger on that combo as the mobo might be allow for at least a very minor OC until I get the funds to build another machine altogether but it wouldn't be for a while. I called my friend to check newegg prices and he reminded me that had an older Biostar mobo around that he used to use with his Q6600 before he upgraded and said I could have it if I wanted it. All I had to do was buy a CPU. I noticed that they were selling the Q8200 for $169 which is the same price as the PII combo. The 775 mobo he owns is this one:
BIOSTAR GF7100P-M7S LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 7100 Micro ATX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813138101
I ended up buying the Q8200 but I don't know if I should keep it or return it and get the PII instead. What would you guys do? I know both combo's will OC poorly because of the mobo but when I get an extra $100 or so I was going to buy a new mobo anyway. If you were going to buy a new mobo anyway down the road would you just keep the C2Q or go for the PII 720BE? Since the intel has a 7x multi it's OC capability might not be that high so I don't know which one is better in terms of bang for the buck.
