What would you do?

Hi

Here's a "what would you do?" question..

On Friday afternoon bought my wife 18 long stem roses in a glass vase.. Sam's club, $25.xx with tax. Very nice looking, with the baby;s breath and all...

Surprised her at work with them, brought them home after work.. Trimmed the ends under water, gave them fresh water in the vase and added the plant food they give you..

Saturday morning they are already turning dark, Saturday night they have shed 3 petals, by Sunday morning they are discoloring and their heads are all drooped over. Called the store when they opened Sundayand asked about any kind of guarantee and they said "yea, bring in the receipt and we'll take care of it".

On the friday I got them, the temp was in the 50's, they covered them with a plastic bag, so temp wasn't an issue..

Flowers I've gotten there have always lasted about a week, so I'm rather disappointed to say the least, and my wife is like "it's the thought that counts babe".

QUESTION: Would the mass majority here return them for a refund since they didn't even last 24 hours with proper care? They don't have any for a replacement, so that's out of the question. I just don't want to be unreasonable and kind of lost as to what to do here. I need to go this afternoon (Monday) since they have a 72 hour guarantee on floral. I'm thinking of getting like 2 or 3 somewhere else if I go for the refund..

What would you do? I know flowers don't live forever after being cut, but I'm thinking these were on their way out when I got them, although I took careful pains to make sure I got some that were not quite opened up and all, nice color, etc..

Thanks

Yes, I have to agree with the above rambling of the loosely-wrapped freak on this one...18 roses should have been big $$ if you expect them to last any decent amount of time.

I thought it was a pretty good deal, but then again Sam's Club usually has some really nice deals.. See I've gotten a dozen there for the last several years (and they always last at least a week) for like $16 + tx and this year they offered the 18 for $25, so I thought "why not "? Yea I know if I went to a florist or somewhere, 18 would probably have been at least $40 or so... then again, sams' buys in bulk so they should be some less expensive..

of course the question is: should I return , or just 'learn my lesson'?

It's kind of a moral thing I guess, I mean they did look good for the rest of the Friday evening, but inside I just kind of think they should have of course lasted longer than that..

take em back and buy some wine and cheese.

if Sams was selling roses knowing that they would only last 36 hours then they should of said so. Flowers typically last for at least 3 days, usually 6.

Take them back and get some nice flowers that will last a week. You are fully in your rights as their customer to express your disatisfaction and they are in their rights to make you an offer that will satisfy you.

Alrighty, I just called to check to see what other kinds they had, and the meat/floral dept. mgr (Jim) said they have had 4 brought back since Saturday, all wilted like these... That and what you guys have said tells me I'm not alone in my thinking... I think "ll pick up a small bouquet of something other than the roses and save the rest on a nice dinner out somewhere this weekend and let the grandparents watch the kids :) I think I'll pick more carefully next year.. The roses weren't all she got for v-day so what she got and the dinner and other flowers will make it all cool.

off I go to Sam's club, thanks guys..

Just got back with a nice bouquet of carnations, other spring looking flowers, "on the house" at their request...

The wrap around the roses said "product of columbia " ........

Thank you for the update. I think you did the right thing... they are happy that you chose to express your concerns instead of choosing to shop elsewhere.

I mean it's not like I don't spend walletloads of moola there all the time, and rarely have to return or exchange something... and yea they were from columbia, which is what really surprised me with the quality..

anyways, thanks for the advice!

It cracks me up that the meat dude runs flowers too. "Sorry those roses didn't work out, if you want I can exchange them for this 40 lb slab of beef I got here."
