I got 60k working for a small company straight out of college. I'm not sure what kind of development you'll be doing, I'm assuming it's c++/java. If that's the case I'd ask Company C to increase their offer (not even mentioning anything about B). If they didn't increase their offer I'd stay with B. 15K is a lot of money, and it's my feeling (from somebody who works in the field) that if they didn't offer you much to start with you shouldn't be expecting major raises either.

I dunno how it is in your part of the country your coming from but offering someone 60K straight outta college with little to no experience is few and far between here in AZ,CO and NM I found. I was lucky to get in at a company that offered me 42K to start when i had 3 years experience and a degree...most were only offering me mid 30's...

Yeah, but he's in NY which is pretty close to where I live. 45k is fairly low for a developer in New York. The OP can take this for whatever it is and that still doesn't mean he shouldn't make the switch if he wishes so. I'm just stating the fact.

yeh argo is rite, a developer in NYC straight outta college is making at least 60. thats what my friends are making...

Does anyone actually LIKE their career? I mean... if you're in the computer field, are you as enthusiastic about computers now that it's your job as you were when it was just a hobby? I tend to think if you make a career out of something you like, eventually it will become something you don't like because you HAVE to do it whether you feel like it or not, so you might as well pick something you're not too crazy about anyway and keep your hobbies/passions out of your work life.

heh that makes sense...

but i've only been doing QA for a year...and i suppose i could do it for the rest of my life, and im enjoying computers/software still....

Seriously man? I'd take 80k. If you really want to do dev you can start looking for places in about a year. Finding a good paying Dev job will be much easier when you're making 80k.

argo: isn't it tough to get a dev job when you have no experience though? i mean i was looking for over a year for a dev job before i found company a....and the only reason i signed that contract was because i was desperate...

Take the job you'd enjoy more and will give you the career path that you want - so that sounds like the dev job. You're young - you'll have plenty of time to make big bucks. In the long run you'll get paid more to be a dev over QA.

Most companies would consider having experience with QA better than no experience at all. Also when you make 80k a year things are a little easier
