what would you do with this scsi drive bay???

I have an older scsi drive bay with 6 2gig baracuda's in it. i dont have a scsi card so it's of no use right now. My options are to get a scsi card and: build a "toy" computer to play with it and do just that "play" with it. or I could hook it up to the home network and use it as some kind of storage. or I could just gut the thing and pop 2 of them in my main rig and run my OS off of them at raid0.

Should I even bother??? most modern IDE drives are probably faster.. but if I hook 'em up to a raid card, raid0 might be pretty quick.

Any idea's??? be creative... I'm open to hearing opinions and idea's....

Hey man, that's pretty cool! Was this just lying around? Wow, neat stuff. Are these 10K drives? Two of those on a nice SCSI card w/RAID 0 would rock and roll. You've already got the computer and the HDs, those are the two most expensive parts. I'd go for the OS on the RAID! A nice 10,000RPM, 12 gig drive is a NICE toy.😀

yeah, they were donatations from work when we upgraded servers.

I think they are just 7200 rpm drives, but should still be great seek times in raid0.

Whats a good inexpensive scsi card to hook 'em up to??

Don't know anything about SCSI, sorry. I'm currently in the process of getting educated on how to successfully setup an IDE RAID array...been quite the pain in the butt, too! I'm a bit behind the times....good luck to you and your toys!

The cables that came with the drive bay are 50 pin. Nothing adaptec, just a drive bay and 6 drives. I assume a can buy an adaptec card, but I don't really have any scsi experience, so I'm not sure what to get.
