Be nice, kids.
If you have to pick on someone, use Nik.

I agree 110%. Who is this Nik guy? I think he feels he owns the ATOT forum or something.

Nik is the Anti-Forum.
He's ever-present and all-seeing.
Watch your step.

And his symbol is 1010011010b.

Uh oh....I better be careful then, I don't want to be outcast from the forums by the all knowing Nik.

Would make a nice console-only Linux system. I could run my IRC server and networked Subversion repository on it nicely.

The school system I work for is upgrading Vectra VL 400's to 512 RAM and running XP on them.

Donate it to a needy student. I work in an elemenatry school and there are many kids who would LOVE to have a computer.

My 3 year old son uses a P III 600 with 764 mb ram for play DVDs, his learning games, surfing Noggin, Disney, and the The Wiggles. He has a wireless connection. Yeah, he is 3 and uses a "puter". He can work puzzles, play music, etc.., He is good on it as well. I actually had ot upgrade him from a P II 333 with 512 mb ram because of the flash games on the websites he likes to play on.

4 year old? That looks more like 5-6.

I am pondering the same thing with my AMD K6-2 400.

I might just turn it into a linux file server down the road. I'd probably toss in a raid controlelr and use it for a BIG at home file server. Jsut keep music on it and stuff.

A PIII 600 is just basically junk. It is my opinion that it is not worth spending money on. I think it is a waste of money to spend a dime on. However, you might find parts for that for only a little money. Sometimes custom computer shops have old pcs sitting around that people trade in. What you need is probably sitting in someone's den.

Keep this in mind. A $400.00 integrate 400Mhz FSB P4 will run circles around a PIII 600, so dont spend much on an older computer. You will never see ROI on 5 year old technology. Sometimes it is better to spend more money to save money in the long run.

Of course you can just wait a little longer or try buying some old ram if you want. What type of RAM does the board have? It might be proprietary and expensive to find.

HP has a bad history for Proprietary Hardware.

Probably longer. My p4 1.8 is 4 1/2 years old. 512 ram, 80gb hd, & an mx440. Still a champ. :)

That was seriously one of the posts of the year. Is that ATOT quote engine still running? That definitely needs to be on there.
