Story:
My youngest brother is in high school (my alma mater). The school is a magnet school but located in a bad part of town. There has been some racial tension between the Asian-, African-, and Mexican-American kids. Basically, during lunch hour, the African-American kids are throwing stuff at the Asian- and Mexican-American kids.

So one day, some of the Asian-American kids get pissed off after more crap is chucked at them and the lot of them kick the African-American kids asses. So in retaliation, African-American kids are now singling out Asian-American kids and beating them up when they are alone or in small groups.

The school staff knows about the crisis, but doesn't do sh!t to anyone. The police are slow in responding and no one has been caught.

My brother wasn't part of the group that beat on the African-Americans. Also, some of the Asian kids are talking about getting help from "outsiders". Whether they actually do it or not, I don't know. This possibly can't end well.

Cliffnotes:
Racial tension at school attended by my brother
Some of the Asian-American kids beat down African-Americans kids after more stuff chucked at them (brother wasn't one of them)
African-American retaliate by beating up on Asian-Americans when they are alone or in small group
Asian-Americans want to get help from "outsiders"

So I'm faced with these options:
1) having my brother transferred to a different school.
2) threatening the school with a lawsuit (if there are legal grounds).
3) keeping him there and hope the problem will go away.

What is the ratio of the parties involved at this magnet school? Serious question.

change schools...

you are not gonna change the situation. If you try, someone will cry discrimination. The school will do whatever it can to not face the situation.

You dont need the hassles. Find another school. If your brother is gifted, he will excel anywhere.

:)

There's defintely more African-American kids than there are Asian-American kids.

On a serious note, i'd talk to the school board and air out your concerns. Maybe a parent, teacher, school meeting is in order. You might want to suggest that the school hire some security to patrol the campus.

I'd go with #3.

though if you can prove that the school is aware of the issue and did nothing about it, you'd probably have a case for a lawsuit.

The only problem I have with the lawsuit thing is that the school is are already strapped for cash so by suing them, it doesn't do much to help the overall situation.

reminding them of the fact might help spur some action, though  even if you're not really planning on following through with a lawsuit.

edit: have you also tried talking with other parents? 20 complaining people > 1

Why is it when Asians Kids get in a fight it's always a bunch of them instead of Mano un Mano?

They are with friends a majority of the time.

From my experiences,

1 African American = 1.5 mexicans = 10 asians

Asians, as a whole, simply do not possess the strength and aggressiveness that the other races have that would help them in a street fight.

I'm asian btw!

However, "outside help" is most likely a bunch of ricer gangsters wielding shanks.
