what would you do in this driving scenario?

  • wait for an opening and pass politely him on the right

  • change to the middle lane, but glare at him as you're passing, then cut him off rudely

  • horn/high beam/tailgate, etc. to show your frustration, hoping that he will move his ass over

  • i don't drive/don't know/don't care

you're driving home late from work, about 7pm so just after rush hour so traffic is lighter, but the roads aren't exactly empty. traffic is flowing well, but there is good volume, just no congestion.
it's a 3 lane major artery right outside the city, and because of that, speed limit is 55 mph, but cars generally go 65-70 in the left lane.

a guy is hogging the left lane, and there is no one ahead of him for as far as you can see.
he's going 60. the middle lane is doing about the same speed, maybe a little faster at 60-65.
cars are beginning to pile up behind you so he's clearly holding up traffic, but he of course is oblivious to all this.

what is your immediate action/reaction?

1. wait for an opening and pass him politely on the right
2. change to the middle lane, but glare at him as you're passing, then cut him off rudely
3. horn/high beam/tailgate, etc. to show your frustration, hoping that he will move his ass over

try to pass him on the right, but then as you are passing him he speeds up because he hates getting passed, then the car in front of you is going too slow so you have to get back behind him. at that point you rage and flash your lights and stuff honking your horn, then he brake checks you and you crash.
 
start by flashing high beams, that usually works for most ppl. pass him eventually on the right if he doesnt get the hint. I wouldnt cut him off dangerously bc I dont want to get into an accident or a ticket for unsafe driving. But I would still cut him off i a way that he would know I was pissed and to move his ass over.
 
Typically for me, anything with 3 lanes tends to have less of the get left logic if going faster. Two lanes, there is a passing lane and a normal traffic lane. But three lanes tends to be more about congestion.

The guy was doing 5 over, and if people are too dense to go around, that's their issue. But for the roads I see, each 3 lanes usually has merging traffic in the far right lane, a middle lane where most drivers tend to be nearing an exit and are getting ready to get into the merging lane, and a left lane that tends to be those that are passing through with no intent to merge or exit the freeway.

Driving 70 in a 55 normally... sounds like the gubment needs to up the speed limit if they aren't going to enforce it.

Do people not realize that glaring at the guy does nothing? When people drive, they are either paying attention to driving or they are dicking around on a cellular phone. The only time I look at people is when I'm trying to identify which stereotype is driving like a retard.

Flashing your high beams is illegal. Why not start shooting paintballs at his car them run him off the road while we're at it? Laws? What are those?
 
Aggressively pass him on the right. Don't give them time to speed up and screw you.

I have never used high beams or horn honks. It just antagonizes them and could spawn a road rage break check.
 
Just politely pass him. Who knows, he may be doing it on purpose with the hopes that someone will provoke him into a road rage incident.

What a stupid analogy.

Shooting paintballs can damage their car, cover his windshield, and scare the shit out of him causing him to lose control of his car.

Flashing a couple high beams won't harm him and won't scare/startle him nearly anywhere close to what a paintball could do. And no, they won't be blinded by a couple flashes of high beams.

Either that or it's a cop. The police here have done stuff like that before. They will tail gate you until you speed up then pull you over for speeding. Sometimes they drive exactly the speed limit in the left lane in an unmarked car then pull over all the road rage people. It's shady but seems fair. You can't start ignoring the law just because some car is pissing you off.

Is it really that bad to pass on the right? I do that pretty much every day just by going the speed limit. People in the left lane are going below the speed limit for no reason, so I pass on the right while doing the speed limit. I think this whole town is high on PCP or something. That might explain why everyone drives so damn slow.
 
Give him some time to get the hint, if not then reluctantly and VERY carefully pass on the right ensuring there are no cars from the far right land are attempting to pass on the left using the middle lane I'm now going into.
