Is he an officer? Officers pay for BOQ and food IIRC. Enlisted do not pay and in fact get money for housing and food if they live off base.

No he's not an officer, he's enlisted. That's exactly what I thought. I told him that and thought I made it very clear but maybe there was still miscommunication. Next time I'll take notes on what he said.

Still, I cannot understand all this talk of a draft. It ain't gonna happen, folks. And the more you talk about it, the more you play along with the folks that want to spread fear by talking about it.

By no means do I think there will be one. This is just one of those pulled-out-of-your-ass ATOT posts about 'what if pigs flew out of your arse'.

If you are drafted, you go where they need you, which is usually Army Infantry, front line.

That's the advantage to enlisting. You can usually either choose your job or your duty station.

Conscientious Objectors get to be Medics, gun optional, but usually also on the front line.

The service provides a complete uniform set (except the highest level dress uniforms). After that, there's a uniform allowance in every check.

After some period of time and rate, you MAY be ALLOWED to move off base, but it's not a given. IF the request is approved, enlisted get a "BAQ" - Basic Allowance for Quarters, and an allowance for food. The amount is dependent on rank/rate and would roughly equate to what it costs for the service to feed you.

If they're desperate enough to draft, the standards of what they'll accept also drop. When I enlisted, te still took folks without HS diplomas or GEDs (still gotta score OK on the entrance exams). These days, there are enough people signing up that they reject a fair number of otherwise qualified people.

I wouldn't be surprised that if the draft came back, and you said you were gay, that they wouldn't put you in an all-gay unit ("The Fourty-Second Fighting Fairies!!").

One of the best tricks I heard back then is the guy who went in for his induction physical with a glass eye in his a$$. When they bent over for the hemmorhoid check ... he was looking back at the Doc. (He was still inducted, but flagged as a troublemaker ... so the story goes).

Give a listen to "Alices Restaraunt" by Arlo Guthrie sometime. It's suppose to be mostly true.

FWIW

You are a complete moron. Seriously. If you get drafted, they ain't drafting your ass to take pictures. Bitch, you're gonna get shot at. Your pay depends on what position you hold in the service. Housing is not free. Living in the barracks doesn't cost money, but once you get a house or appartment to yourself, you pay for it. Free? BWuahahahaha - I got news for you, bud. You gotta buy LOTS of stuff in the service. You want a dress uniform? You buy it. You want a second set of fatigues? You buy them.

Wow, you can just eat-a-bag-of-dicks! Thanks for being an ass!

Well, given the nature of the forums I'm not sure if I've already replied to this thread, but I would go and serve to the best of my ability.
