i've never been addicted to meth, but i would imagine it to be alot like opiate/heroin addiction... when you become an addict, you start to realize that the first thing you want to do/need to do to feel well when you wake up is to feel that feeling, it's the strangest thing, its truly you have to feel it, be a junkie, to understand what it's like. but yeah, to quit is something that's only going to happen when said person addicted to meth/heroin decides they are going to and that takes a hell of a lot of willpower...

Find their stash, leave a note "I know what you did last summer", place the stash in parent's room on dresser, leave another note "ask son what he did last summer".

It's a terrible drug. The only thing I could think of doing is seeking help through whatever means are necessary. If that means reporting them to the authorities, I would go that route. Unfortunately Meth is bad news...it's supposed to be worse than crack.

The best thing to do is call the authorities. As soon as you try to "force" them into rehab, you just become a part of their problem. They need to make decisions about going into rehab on their own. Go to the police. Don't mess with addicts b/c they are too damn manipulative and will beat you every damn time.

ive seen people i know in real life on meth and the pictures in the above link is not exaggeration.

What's with the weird blisters?

IIRC, Fergie actually had a pretty decent looking face before she developed a meth addiction...

Between the extreme dehydration and the incredible amounts of chemicals being ingested, you're slowly(more or less) poisoning yourself. Poor hygiene, less frequent bathing are typical tweak behaviors as is picking at themselves. These sores quickly become infected.

God help the poor mosquito that bites a tweaker. If they spontaneously combust with Tabasco, what would meth do?

Hide anything of value that you don't want pawned.
throw them out of the house.
call the cops.

I had a friend who was addicted. It got so bad his parents couldn't leave him because he would grab whatever was lying around of value and pawn it for the drug.

disown him. He is lost to the dark side

Say something, seriously, even if it causes a commotion. Two of my best friends are former addicts, and it's not a road they want to go back down.

First they think they've got it under control, but then it snowballs and you're without a car, place, friends, and you're talking to random people on the street wondering why they don't understand the obvious connection between loofahs and and the trickle down economics of the Reagan administration.

He's always talking about ponies, rainbows, crystals, etc...

I always thought he was just trying to yank my chain.

Hung out with the wrong crowd, never went to college, lived with parents, always broke and borrowing money, things disappeared from the house.
This is exactly what our experience has been

you can't compete against white powder drugs. & meth might be one
of the worst.

to answer your question, i would find out as much as possible, then
take a big breath & try to talk with them ONCE.

or ... let them talk to someone like my post-woman. her husband
started doing meth & i was blown away by the story she told.

the problem is, that first high that felt so good, is what he goes
looking for every time he ingests. and he will never get that feeling
again. his brain chemistry has been altered. game over. time to
try sex or something.

one thing i always wondered about meth is - why do meth users
have rotten teeth ? is it something in the chemistry of the meth,
or is it just because flossing & brushing twice daily is no longer a
priority ?

Nasty teeth I think is caused by something in the chemistry of the meth. Specifically when you smoke it, there's some kind of acid released. I'm really no expert on it, I've just been watching that show Breaking Bad.

I have family members who look pretty much exactly like the after pics in that link. I keep trying to tell everyone who thinks they are on the wonderful road to recovery that they are still on meth but they keep getting dupped into believing it time after time after time...20 years of "oh look how much better **** is doing" and 2 months later, back in jail...

They will pretty much lie, cheat, steal,do whatever it takes to get it so be very wary when around anyone you think is on it...

That's the worst thing you can do. You freak, then they will freak out and possibly run away. It's not as easy as it would seem to get someone to quit, especially something like crystal meth. they need professional assistance ASAP.

I think you need to make sure this person does not have keys to anyone's house but their own.

Call the local drug users anonymous and explain your situation and ask for advice. Other than that. I am at a loss.

This is my brother -- he's 22.
Ok he's old enough to make his own decisions.

Not saying anything is tantamount to allowing it to occur.

You're going to need help with this. In patient treAtment, at least supervised will be needed depending on how hard he's hooked.

Go to some NarcAnon meetings to find resources in the community.

Good luck.

Definitely will have to ask for keys.

I have never had something like this happen so it did not occur to me to look for a narcotics anonymous org.
Thanks for the tip!

Thinking about it now, probably give them a lot of attention... take away keys as recommended above, sit down with them for days at a time, whatever it takes to keep them clean.
