What would you do? Dell 2001FP vs Samsung 213T!

20.1" 16ms Dell 2001FP
or
21.3" 25ms Samsung 213T

Which would you pick? Don't really worry about the money, having the 'better' screen is the issue.
It would be the only display in your room. (NO TV)
You'd watch DVD and TV on it, as well as play games.. (like Flight Sims, Rainbow Six, Warcraft3)

I need help making this decision :/

Anand Tech Dell Review Click Here
Game PC Samsung Review Click Here

note that I'd plan on connecting this to an ATI All in Wonder 9800, so the p-i-p on the dell isnt that big of a deal. Anyway the central question seems to be: is the extra 1.2" diagonal worth the slightly higher response time?

Thoughts?

I'm curious to hear the response as well... of course I'm a Samsung supporter but recently I've been hearing of false advertising and sending review products that were better than those sold to the general public, etc.

The Dell, hands down.

I owned the 213T for about a week. It is an awesome display if you don't play games, any games. HORRIBLE ghosting with any game that involves motion (that means most of them), even in slower games it was bad. Jedi Kniight 2 for example was unplayable. There were trails behind moving objects that were 1/2" in length, horrible. Made me dizzy. I returned the display quickly and have no regrets. Other little nit-pickings include slight colour shift at greater viewing angles, and a backlight that was not very uniform.

I myself just ordered the Dell 2001FP, hopefully I'll get it soon...

Betelgeuse- where did you get the 213t from to be able to return it? how much did you pay for the dell (did you order it alone or with a machine?)

What input were you using?

Ive seen mixed reviews of the 213t-some say they see ghosting in games, other dont.

I use the 213T in everyday tasks.

Yes it does ghost. It doesn't bother me at all. Of course I'm working much more than gaming. I'd much rather have as much screen area as possible with sharp text though. I'm sure the Dell display will be fine. Both will have problems in fast paced games obviously. The contrast on the Samsung is very good compared to other LCD's I've seen. It's a good display. Every one I've opened always had zero dead pixels and no problems with uneven backlighting. Both defects are reason for exchange IMO. Beware of resellers that have a minimum dead/stuck pixel requirement!

Cheers!

Borrowshop, err Futureshop.

I ordered the Dell stand-alone. It was $1549 Canadian (same price as 2000FP).

I was using DVI with a Radeon 9700 Pro. I don't think the input will make a large difference in terms of ghosting. It was unbearable, although that's just my opinion. Other people may have better tolerance for this kind of thing.

Tekknikal: Keep in mind, we thought it was severe, although not everyone has the same level of sensitivity. It is sometimes hard to tell on a picture because the exposure lenghth might have exposed the image for more than 16ms or in between two frames.

Kristopher, good point.

shuttleteam (and anyone else), how good do you all think the samsung would be in games such as flight simulators and warcraft 3? ghosting should be minimal (would it even be noticable?)

how bad is ghosting on a fps.. is it something thats always there? i dont play many action games... how prevelant would ghosting be in something like rogue spear? Is it something you always see anytime you walk, or..???

if someone could help explain this issue to me itd help a lot. i think i want to go with the samsung, at least to try it out...

i own the 213t and i play games and watch movies on it all the time and i never notice any ghosting. i dont play first person shooters though, mostly warcraft 3, vice city, mafia, c&c generals, and some others.....

but the fact is the dell screen is about a half year newer in technology with the faster response time. i'm sure it performs a little better then mine. now what i really want is a widescreen 21" lcd:):):)

the blur will be highest on any game with a lot of frames per second. Most people dont even recognize it unless they are expecting to see it :)

I am also trying to decide between the Samsung 213T and the new Dell. I am a little dissappointed that no true fast paced games were tested with the Dell. I would have like to seen UT2003 tested on the dell.

I've heard mixed reviews of the 213T. When using the dvi output, ive heard that there is virtually no ghosting. Any other 213T owners out there? I need a bit more info :)

Just got a 213t today... played a level or 2 of Call of Duty, and ghosting is non existent. Just an FYI... Prior to the 213t I had a 21" Sony FD500, so I was going into this purchase with a little hesitance. Not disappointed in the slightest (So far).

I think im pretty much set on the 213t as well(I really like its looks). I can get it locally for around $1050. I havent looked into what kind of price I can get online. Time to put my Mistu 2040u up for sale!

Yep.... that is about what I got it for... $1178 - $100 (Rebate) at Best Buy. Plus, I had $200 in gift cards.

One thing that left me sorely disappointed in Best Buy was the way they had all the LCD's displayed. They were all hooked up to a Key Digital Systems muli-monitor box via an analog connection and running at 1024x768. Needless to say the 213t looked horrid. I made them hook the LCD up to a DVI-D connection running at 1600x1200 before I'd buy it.

CH2: how do you think warcraft 3 and Rogue Spear would play on it? Over on Tom's hardware he knocks LCDs left and right for some games not even being playable. Could you comment more on your experiences?

I'll check out Rainbow 6 Raven Shield tonight, along with UT2003, and Max Payne 2... sorry, no warcraft.
