What would you do about laptop memory?

So I want a gig of memory with my laptop. My laptop will come with 512mb of PC3200 in 2x256 chips. I want 1gig. It's $280 to upgrade to a gig of ram through dell. For $270 I can get a gig through crucial and then sell my 2x256mb chips to make some of the money back. Would you just get the gig of ram through dell and save yourself the hassle of selling the chips? Or would you go sell the chips and get the ram through crucial?

Absolutely. As Rossman mentioned to me a couple days ago, if one rep won't see things your way, hang up and call back for another.

RAM is so easy to upgrade and cheap elsewhere.

I would buy the MINIMUM RAM from Dell, order the rest through Crucial, NewEgg or Kingston.

Sell the RAM from Dell and upgrade it yourself.

call within 30 days to return the notebook, the lady will be like, how about we give you a discount on the notebook usually around 150, if it doesn't work, call back in 30 min with different csr, sell the memory anyway and get 1 gig.. make money back

It's just such a pain in the butt to sell my memory and get new stuff and such a hassle. Im not going to defraud dell and tell them I dont like the laptop especially when its so damned nice. My friend has an older version of this laptop and I love it.

Doesnt Dell buy back components? I thought I heard of somepeople doing this back when Dell had the 4600 desktop for $199.00 people were selling back cd drives, memory, hard drives even motherboards.

I can get a gig through crucial for $270 shipped. I think thats what Im gonna do, although 2 gigs is so frickin tempting. My dads gonna give me like $100 for my old lappy, and then I could maybe get $100 more for my 512mb, that would make 2gigs only $325ish
