what would you consider a "living" wage / salary in your area

Not making a fortune, necessarily, but not "scraping by", either. Just enough to live comfortably. Just a ballpark idea. Oh, and if you do answer this, whereabouts do you live?

Does living comfortably include buying a house? How many people have to be living comfortably, jsut me, or me and a family, or what?

There are too many variables involved with answering your question.

where i live, you could do ok on $25,000 (renting a trailer in a mobile home park)

where i work/closer to the city, i would say $35-$40K

that would be with 2 kids and shopping at walmart/eating generic brands and no cell phone and fancy crap like that

Single and in central Texas, $50k will let you live like a king...the downside is that you'll have to live in central Texas. I think I would still be very comfortable making $30k...

Assumptions:
Living in an apt, eating at home, 1 ok car, single male w/o gf:

$3K/month

Living in a home, eating out & at home, 1 ok car, married:

$5K/month combined

Single in AZ I can get by on 20-25K annual...but i wouldnt have any toys and be living kinda ghetto 😛

$40,000-45,000 to just get by in the SF Bay Area. Depends on where in the area you live, it can be more or less. Comfortable? I'd say $55,000 to $60,000. Of course, more is always better!

I couldn't answer your question even of I wanted to. To many things to factor in, Liveing in California living wage is one thing but the cost of living is another.

If it includes buying a house, with no family to support, a living wage around here is about 55-60 grand, scraping by.

If you're single, $35,000 here (south TX) will give you a very comfortable living. Add $10,000 for a spouse and each additional kid.

Edit: Comfortable means a newish car, decent house, and a little spending money.

$30,000 here would get your reliable transportation, and a modest house in a good school district.

Feel free to fill in your own deffinition, within reason...ie., you probably don't *need* that new boat you've been drooling over. 😛 A new car might be a different story though.

Personally, right now I am single, so no family or SO to worry about; I would like to get my own place (apartment is fine, though probably a real home at *some* point), stuff like that. I like to eat out once in a while, but I like to cook at home, too.

$50K after taxes give or take a few, single, owning a pretty good house, and being smart about spending. (Twin Cities, MN)
