Ok so currently I work a 9 am to 6 pm shift here at the office, but the guy I work with just said he is tired of working the 7 am to 4 pm shift. What would you guys prefer?

I like getting off earlier (har har har). But if you're not unhappy with your current schedule, I see little reason to change.

9-6... I start work at 8 am right now and just about never wake up on time as it is.

that said, I could see the benefits of 7-4. you'd almost completely miss rush hour.

7-4, the earlier days work way better for me. 6PM is way too freaking late.

Chose 7-4 since I already work at least a 7-5. This week it's been a 7-6/7-7. Oh, and no OT since I'm on salary.

7-4 but only because of traffic. Other than that, I'd be neutral.

9-6 for two reasons:

1. I live in the city and work in the suburbs, so even during peak rush hour times the traffic is never bad. Most people are going the opposite direction.
2. I fucking hate getting up that early.

7-4 is nice because you have a ton more time at night and your body will adjust fairly quickly.

9-6 is nice if you stay out late/party a lot.

basically 7-4 would be for a grown up and 9-6 for a kid.

7-4.

1) Like others have said, you avoid rush hour for the most part.
2) Most happy hours end at 6 or 7pm. That means more happy hours for you.

depends on a number of things... do you like sleeping in? How is the commute? If you are younger and tend to stay out later.. you may like getting in at 9.

Me having kids... I like getting home at 4. If I got home at 6, I could not coach my son's football team and would miss a lot of the kids school activities. I am asleep by 10:30 so the staying out late thing does not apply to me.

when i was younger and single, i liked getting up later since i stayed up till the wee hours. Now with kids earlier works better.

For most of my 30 years in construction, 7 a.m. was starting time, so that'd be my first choice. 9 a.m. is just too late. (that's what time I started at the CPA firm last tax season and I hated it.)

I'd take 7-4. At least when you get out there's a feeling that there's enough day left to do something.

I don't like getting up early, but working until 6 would be too late for me. By the time you've come home and had dinner, most of the evening is gone.

You get used to early mornings. I used to think getting up at 6:20 was horrible, now I wake at 7am even in the weekend with no alarm clock.

I prefer the earlier shift. I am an early morning person and in terms of my commute the earlier I start the less time I spend on the road.

I do a 7-3:30, but lately it's turning into a 7-5:30. Too much stuff to do at the end of the day, and people always look at you like you're bailing in the middle of the day when you leave at your normal time.

That's the only sucky part. But honestly if I leave my house any later than 6:30, my commute will go from 25 minutes to 55 minutes. Funny how traffic works.

I work a 10-7. It works for me both because I'm not a morning person and because I miss traffic. However, it does kinda suck that it's now dark when I get off work...
