I would say live in Boston alittle smaller but beware of the big dig. It should be nice once they finish it in what 2012 or something.

<=== Grew up in NYC and went to college in Boston.

NYC is a good place to live if you are young and want to hang out but it is really expensive.

Boston is a fun city too but dead in the summer because it is more of a college town. Boston is also slightly cheaper.

If I was your age, I'd probably live in Boston. You can keep a car in Boston but you can also walk to practically anywhere in the city. Winters are a bitch with the ice and wind but if you like skiing, VT, NH and ME aren't far away.

I like NYC but now that I'm married with kids, I never go out anymore so I can never take advantage of NYC.

The one thing that worries me about NYC is terrorism. I have a feeling something bad will definitely happen here again. In Boston, I wouldn't have that apprehension, come on they have the Red Sox to do that for them.

Edit: T, what are you some wuss? How can you take a taxi to Logan? Just take the T, it's right there for you on the red line. You MIT guys are too soft.

Do you own a car?
In NYC keeping the car in a garage may exceed your monthly car payments. Parking it on the street is just begging for it to be stolen or broken into.
NYC has the better nightlife but it's a more expensive city to live in.
Still if you have a car and are willing to get rid of it, New York City is probably your best bet.

well, since it's temporary and you're still young, I would go for NYC. I've been living here for 12 years and there's always something to do, specially in Manhattan.

The big downside imo is the cost of living. It's expensive as hell around here.

Also, since you're in accounting you probably have more opportunities here in nyc.

Having a car in NYC is a waste of money. Having a car in Boston is doable, and opens up all of New England for touring on the weekends. I would NOT drive in either city unless you have to! And yes, I've driven in both.

NYC is better laid out, both cities are cold in the winter (think concrete canyons w/ the wind blasting down it).

Culturally, NYC seems to be a bit broader, but Boston is certainly not a slouch. Yankess vs. Red Sox??? Who cares? They'll be on strike by the time you get there anyway.

Take your pick, I think you'll enjoy either of them.

yes i would be getting a raise to equal the increased cost of living in either of those cities.
I have many interests, but i work for an accounting firm :p

not sure where in the city i would live. The main office in NYC is around 7th Ave and W 29th Street, so thats like what? northern manhattan? its north of madision square park.

What's the cost of a bachelors apartment squite? Somthing 'decent', one bedroom etc... I won't have a roommate.

Am I looking at 1,000 min for a crappy apartment, or 2-3K for somthing decent / month? (yah i realize it depends where, but generally somthing that isnt nick named the roach hotel type of higher quality)

thanks
:)

if you can afford 3k a month for just rent your doing well enought to live anywhere in the country with out worrying about cost of living raise.

Dog, I am a Mass native so I only used Logan for spring break and vacations... It made a lot of sense to split a cab with 3 of my fraternity bros conisdering all the luggage.

Boston, then you can come to Maine on the weekends and clog the roads like the rest of the massholes. ;)

Just kidding, but Boston is a great town.

Your office is in the Chelsea area. It's downtown Manhattan. Personally, I would live on the Upper East Side or the Upper West Side. Nicest places to live as long as you are below 96th street. More $$, but nice. Good restaurants and with the subway it won't take you long to get to work.

Boston.

I've lived in both, and Boston by far.

Less crowded, less expensive, and feels more like a community.
