Okay, I am from the US. My budget has increased to $1800(all for hardware, software on it's own budget). I Have no real preference on equipment. I do like Asus mobods but have a Gigabyte right now. I am looking at an i7 or Xeon but if oc can not be accomplished with a Xeon probably an i7 unless someone can explain this to me. mfenn said The Ivy Bridge Xeon that lehtv recommended is faster at stock than your 2600K when overclocked to 4 GHz. Is that true????
My question goes back to the ASRock mobod. Is ASRock as accomplished company as Asus? Are their boards really as good? I have never purchased one but many are telling me as someone on here did that ASRock is the way to go. I know a cheaper board will suit me fine but I have noticed the more you pay the higher the quality of the board.
I have purchased the SSD drive and PSU. I have not other parts at this time. This is a new build.

What about these two boards?

Yes, a 3.8 GHz Ivy Bridge is faster than a 4 GHz Sandy Bridge.

As for motherboards, a more expensive mobo is not necessarily high quality, at least not as I understand the meaning of quality. It may have more bells and whistles, but that doesn't necessarily translate to quality.

As for the sticky, you hit some of the questions, but not really all of them. Copy and paste the questions along with your answers if that helps you to organize your thoughts. In particular, I don't know whether or not the $1800 includes or excludes the amount you already spent on the SSD and PSU.

1. General tasks about 60% of the time. 40% video editing. So, I don't want to waste time rendering. I need something extremely fast.
2. $1800 or more if really needed. I have spent $90 on PSU, $160 on SSD.
3.USA
4. Intel CPU. Mobod- Asus, ASRock, Gigabyte, MSI. I like Asus best. I need someone to tell me what they know about ASRock and why some seem to believe that is a better buy. Video card - really no pref on that either but I do like the ones with lifetime warranties. :)
5. No current parts used on this build. All new. Already have two parts mentioned in #2.
7. If I get a Xeon I guess no oc but i7 yes. I like the idea of not having to oc the Xeon. What is the best one to get under $300?
8. Not sure on resolution as of this point. I am sure the standard HD settings. I am running 2 24" Asus monitors right now. These are going to my brother in law.
9. From now until Xmas.
I need software but that is not included in the budget price. OS, etc.

Its best to buy at one time so your return period doesn't expire.

ASRock was under ASUS until they broke away. They are slowly moving up and have surpassed ASUS in the 'best bang for buck' area

What do you think of the two boards I listed above?
As for video cards, do you think it important now to get a 2GB card instead of 1GB? When editing all my software uses GPU also. And when viewing during editing a good GPU is important.

Get the ASRock z75

2gb is better than 1gb. List software since different software have specifics like they like cuda cores and what not

Z75 is better than Z77?
That depends on what you mean by "better". Z75 is cheaper, so that's better. It lacks a few Z77 features, mainly SRT caching. But I wouldn't say that makes it worse if you'll never use those features.

And I doubt he will need the caching/use it

OK, this is easy once everything is specified properly:

Xeon E3-1230 V2 $245
ASRock Z77 Pro3 $95
Kingston DDR3 1600 16GB $68
Zotac GTX 660 Ti $300 - Vegas has CUDA support
Existing SSD $160
Seagate ST2000DM0001 x2 $220
Lite-ON DVD Burner $18
Existing PSU $90
Fractal Design R4 $110
Total: $1306

You could spend more on the base machine, a lot more, but the difference would better go towards a 2560x1440 monitor like this Auria from MicroCenter (yes, they will ship it).

I did not even think about the case. I already have an antec solo case that I have sitting around. Duh on me. That save another 100 bucks.

Would a person be better of getting a V5900 Firepro from AMD for the graphics. There will be no gaming and at this point it will even become more of a video machine being used for video over 50% as some career things have changed.

Definitely not. You want an NVidia card for CUDA support in Vegas.

I would buy a 24" touchscreen monitor to get the best Windows 8 experience. That should conclude my high end PC! :)

"Lets see, is that an artifact in the video that I'm editing or just a smudge?"

*wipewipewipe*

"Oh it was a smudge."

Yeah, touch in Win 8 is a real productivity booster.
