Hi All.

Thanks for all the feedback and support, regarding my new Rig.

A little challenge, for all those that, reckon they could have done it better.

If i gave you $3000US, what would be the system of your dreams..

The results should be interesting??

cheers

I don't have the time to get a calculator out, but I will take a shot at it:
Dual 940 socket Mobo with Opteron 244's ($1200 I think, $476x2+$250-$300)
Radeon 9800pro ($220)
4 15k SCSI 36 gig drives in raid5 with a raid 5 PCI-X SCSI controller ($1200 right here, maybe a shade more)
1 gig memory and a couple of DVD/CD drives to round out the $3000 (might be a shade over)

Could do anything faster than your sig (don't know what you spent though) IMO, and no flames please....... This is what I WOULD HAVE DONE WITH $3000

Mark I really like your thinking but I must tell you the above system he is building well blow you out of the water for raw speed (2xCPU) does not equate to double performance As for my dream system I need another$2000

youre joking right? one p4 with 7200rpm sata drivers will beat out 2 opterons with a 15k rpm scsi array? im thinking otherwise

personally id probably end up with asingle cpu system and a couple 19" lcds :D

Anyone who builds you a system without knowing what apps you run is really just quessing. Based on nothing other than a spec of $3,000 , a PC and dreams. Then here you go:

1. Get a Dell 4600 for $399
2. Get 2 weeks at a Club Med with the balance

I'd love to build a p4 system with the quad channel rambus chipsets that sis has in the works, assuming it ever comes out and isn't a big flop like their R658 was..but looks to have potential. Lol, of course a gig of pc1333 RDRAM would probably cost $3000 by itself.
