A guy I know needs to take his HD out of a dead laptop and back it up before sending it in for repairs. The laptop is about a year old. He said you can buy something to put the drive in and copy it. Is that called a hard drive enclosure? I need to know so I can buy it.
 
They are called hard drive docks or docking stations.

Dock

There are many choices, but if you have SATA drives, 2.5 or 3.5, the Vantec is slick.
