heh, i remember that first mp3 player several years ago,i forget the name.. when mp3 firrst first got popular.. was no rewind or forward.. killed the cpu.. etc..

EVen though I mentioned aboved that QCD is a cool alternative I personally use Winamp 2.81. Tried 3 and found it crappy...

there was a time when there was just winplay3 and winamp alpha.. i used winamp and have used it since.

if winamp did not exist... i probably would never have gotten this addicted to computers. it all started with the mp3 addiction.

What would the world be like w/o winamp?

The world would be a cold and horrible place. 😛
Winamp is the best (I refer to 2.xx here, winamp 3.x is a disgrace to the winamp name)

I was using WinAmp but some of the wav files I have didn't play all the way through - so I tried them in WMPlayer and it play the entire wav. So! I'm sticking with it.

At work we have an old beater of a Dell P2-266 that we threw a 120GB drive into, hooked it up to a receiver and made into our MP3 server. There's a Winamp plugin available that puts out an HTTP interface which allows you to control Winamp through a browser. Does anything else do that?

I think this question has been asked before.. but im not sure.

I'm not sure what would happen, but I'm sure someone else would have have the market cornered.

Winamp sucks.

Use Sonique. 🙂

and how exactly does it suck?

It's decoding quality is sub par and its equalizer is less than optimal.

And you can't change the speed of the songs. 🙂

What are you talking about? The MAD plugin sounds fine, and why would you use an equalizer anyway?

Winamp is teh suxx

I always use the latest buggiest pre-alpha version of Windows Media player! 😀

hey does anyone know how to change the tray icon for winamp.... not just the ones that they give you , i want to change it to a custom tray icon... anyone know how i would go about doin that?

The very first MP3 player I remember using was Win Play. Then, Winamp came about a few months later.
Without Winamp, the world would be fine. Plus, Winamp kinda sucks now. It's too heavily loaded. I prefer the simplicity of Media Player.

Oh yeah? Does your coolplayer have a "decent" EQ? I'm guessing no.

I got hardware eq (santa cruz)

can't say the same about others but I'd never use any eq. besides, coolplayer is't th eonly alt mp3 player out there. if you looked there are tens of these around.
The Santa Cruz uses a s/w eq too. I get conflicts when I try to use both eq's at the same time (for fine tuning). I like them both, but the SC one is easier.

I haven't used Winamp in 2-3 years... somehow I don't think the world would be much different if it had never been invented.

and it's got the best damn sound quality out of any player

people in the know use coolplayer, free, open source, simple and very very small.
