Hi.

I am wondering what would make all you AMD users go back to Intel??

Would it be a specific requirements CPU wise???

Better value for money??

Would you ever go back???

Just your general opinions on the subject..

Cheers

Intel would have to show that it's gaming performance far outperforms AMD for me to switch. It seems to me that the price points for both Intel and AMD are fairly similar, so gaming performance would be my main concern.

I m using an Intel P4 3.06 GHz, but will go for AMD Athlon FX soon, no prescott, simple, if intel can lower the heat issue then I will stick to Intel

I might try Intel when they release Dual Core desktop Pentium M's with a fast bus and 64 bit support. It would have to beat dual core AMD64 though. :D

When Intel cam beat AMD for price/performance and heat, and not force me on socket 775/PCI express (PCI-X is faster except the one 16x slot that doesn't help over AGP anyway), then I would consider it. I don;t see anything in their roadmap that I want except maybe a Dothan laptop. I haven't looked close enough at the difference between that and the a64 mobile though, so still may not have anything for me.

When Intel offers more "bang for buck" in both features and price/performance than AMD @ the time of purchase.

sexual favors

plain and simple. but that's not in any of their roadmaps, so maybe a 3+GHZ dothan with 800 or more fsb. that would rock, but it's a long way off

A lot of "AMD people" did switch to Intel during the height of the P4 Northwood since it offered better performance than the AXP and had great overclocking. Now that A64 is here, the trend is going the other way.

People who are not fan boys will use either brand. Whatever is best at the time.

Buying the best price/performance at the time is what I do all the time. I cant afford to make 'bad' purchases.

If intel bought Amd

Actually, what others have said, better price for performance ratio

Havent jumped on the A64 bandwagon yet. I'm still using my p4 3.06ghz cpu.
Maybe it will last me till the next round of cpu wars.

My thoughts exactly.

Absolutely nothing, there is just no reason right now to switch to a new chipset, socket cpu, spend extra $$$ on pci express video card for virtually no performance difference.

I just switched to Intel for the first time in 7 computers that i've built in the last few years.

I just wanted to try something new. :)

As long as Dell keeps selling PCs for less than I can build them for, I'm going to stay an Intel user.

I'm running 4 400SC PCs with P4 3.2Ghz that I got for about $250-300 each over the past 8 months. More quiet than any PC I've ever built and rock solid stable. I used to build my own, but at these kinds of prices, why bother?

I switched from an A64 2800+ to an Intel P4 Northwood (2.6 @ 3.31). I did it for two main reasons. First, I wanted to try something different. And two, the kind of stuff I do on my computer the intel helps. I do a lot of matlab simulations and autocad stuff. I also run a lot of stuff at the same time. While I also do a lot of gaming i cant imagine that w/ my vid card the 3.3ghz P4 is going to "feel" any slower. I am happy w/ the move.

It would have been interesting if you OC'ed the 2800 to 3400+ levels and then switched. Then you could have replated your real experience. Comparing a stock 2800 to an OC'ed P4 isn't telling of your real experience.

Ditto. 400SCs rock, and I dare anyone to build something of similar quality for the same price using AMD components.

Yes you do. I picked up 5 of them and sold the cpus on ebay for more than cost of the 400SCs, threw 2.4Cs in there and now i have 5 servers :)
