Lets say I was given the choice of two low end computers to use as a web server. Which would be your choice and why?

Computer 1:
Compaq Deskpro
P2 266
256megs of ram
4.3gig scsi
Onboard scsi controller
Onboard lan and sound
Some cheap maxtor agp card.
24x cd-rom
1.44 floppy
13gig 5400rpm IDE harddrive.

Or
P2 300
256 megs of ram
13gig 5400rpm IDE hard drive
D-Link 538tx 10/100 network card
Some cheap AGP card, don't know the name.
24x cd-rom
1.44 floppy
Soyo P2 motherboard

Thanks.

Probably the 2nd one, its faster and has more HD space. Other than that, pick the more reliable one

Space isn't really an issue. I've got hard drives lieing around a bit everywhere.

The compaq has a scsi hard drive in it. Would the Compaq be faster then the P2 300 because of the scsi? Or would the 44mhz justify the extra speed the scsi gives?

If you are serving from a DSL/Cable line it really doesn't matter.

If you're just gonna have it around your house, I'd pick the more quiet one.

Throw Linux/*BSD and Apache on it and it'll be able to serve more than any home DSL line will be able to feed.

I will be using it for learning perposes also, so speed is a consern.

I have never really used scsi before. But the drive in the compaq is load. I'll think I'll go with the other one. More expandable to!
