Stability is the most important thing for me. It simply will NOT crash. Even if somthing does crash, it will not bring the system down.

There was a thread in the operating systems forum about the same thing and I'm sure there have been more in the past. Do a search, see what comes up.

Windows 2000 has:

-better stability.
-better multitasking.
-a better memory manager.
-a better filesystem.
-better networking.
-better security.
-better multiuser abilities.

Get another stick of 128 RAM for a total of 256(since it is dirt cheap now).
256+win2k rocks. Very stable, better faster networking. Even the internet over dial-up is faster in win2k (not screaming, but defenatly faster).

You mentioned you dont play games. Just another reason to go to win2k (even though most games work fine.) I'll never go back to 9x

I took a speed hit on my cable modem after going to win2k. Is there some tweaks that I should know about? I also took a hit when running that madonion benchmark. Someone told me that's normal, is it?

If you don't game, I'll have to agree with all of the above.

Definately get the extra 128MB of RAM though.

And MrGrim, it DOES crash and bring your system down. I've been using it since the early beta stages and run around 10 different applications on it daily. Today I had to restart 3 times due to different hangs and bluescreens. And its not because I don't know what I'm doing, believe me. ;)
