i live in the city and pretty sure discharging a gun in the city limits is illegal, so it would depend on if anyone saw me or not

I live in Oakland. People would just think I'm a lousy shot. "Who were you aiming at? That was terrible!" I'd need to get ready for return fire, too.

😛

I've posted here before about the neighbor's kid that shot out windows at my house. The cops said if you can't ID the shooter, they can't arrest anyone.

So, if you want to shoot, sniper fire is the way to go.

I'd be covered in drywall dust and have some explaining to do to the condo board.

But there would probably be less redneck music coming through your walls, amirite?

Oh, and I live in LA, so I would probably get a tactical squad at my door, maybe 40-100 cops, assuming there wasn't anything more exciting going on.

I thought this thread was going to be about the whole bullet coming back down thing.

so did i and i was expecting flaming of the OP about how it was on mythbusters.

in my neighborhood, even though its gated with decent security, nothing would happen. Ive shot over 2000 paintballs, over 50 shots of a potato gun. blew up maybe 3 dry ice bombs, one of which was inside those 100 dollar grills that are red. thought it would contain it lol. (on a phone so i cant link the youtube video, but search the username tsslaporte, ignore the kid going omg and the bird lol)

To answer my own question:
Nothing. We shoot guns off all the time and nothing happens. It does get scary during gun deer hunting season...its not uncommon to hear 10 shots in the morning and another 20 at night. I am really surprised that more cars don't get picked off going down the road.

What would happen if you walked out your front door and fired a gun in the air?
I'd put a hole in my porch ceiling. 😛

Depends on the gun. If it's only the .22, then nothing would happen. If it's the 12 gauge, then nothing would happen, except perhaps a neighbor asking me what I shot. Anything bigger & my neighbor might come over and inquire, "hey, nice gun! Using it this season?" Otherwise, no one would care. We go out the back door, sit on the patio, and shoot targets from time to time. Not much room between the front of the house and the road though, so it wouldn't be normal to shoot there, unless shooting a coyote, fox, skunk, possum, weasel, raccoon, or woodchuck.
