Apparently, according to this article, there are talks of merging the NYSE and the Euronext.

What would be the advantages/disadvantages?

Would this mean that I could go up to the Euronext, and then buy stocks on the NYSE, or vice versa?

The exchange listings will not merge, IE: All euronext listings will not become NYSE listings. Both the NYSE and Euronext are publically traded companies, it's simply a merger between the two.

Currently NYSE is offering an all stock deal, competing with a bid by another company, Deutsche Börse AG.

edit: I should clarify that Euronext operates several stock exchanges.

It would be much better if the NYSE would just die off. The only thing they offer this world is corruption and legalized racketeering, and as soon as they are extinct as a stock exchange, the better.

the only thing NYSE has got going for it is the name and "specialists" which is a gimmick now with all the computerized stuff now.
