About 3 - 5 minutes l8ter you see a news flash on TV.

Magor Network Backbone suffers air bombing....International Data Lines Have been sabotauged, cut, taken over.....The president has executed martial law and the internet in the process will be destroyed......A giant meteor... Well you get the point.

Would thier be world wide panic ?

What would happen if the internet sudenly shut down ?

Well, for starters, the little light on my phone would go from black to red in about 3 seconds...

Viper GTS

I would either kick some single player UT on Godlike, or catch up on some novels I haven't read, or I would actually crack my Nortel books and study 😱

Take a nap. Preferably burried face first in some warm carpet or maybe even some smooth linoleum 🙂

Would thier be world wide panic ?

All of the AnandTech junkies and forum-aholics (myself incuded) would go on a murderous psychotic rampage due to withdrawl. 🙂

It would have to be something big enough to take out entire continent. The whole point of the "internet" and TCP/IP was to prevent this from happening in the event of war or natural disasters.

TCP/IP and the internet were set up so that you could take out a large number of large backbones but it would still be able to work its way to wherever you needed it to go. Sort of like a huge failsafe system.

But, in the event that it did. You would see some serious complications. A lot, and I do mean a lot of people would be out of business. Companies that rely on the internet for data communications between remote offices would be down for the count, e-commerce companies would be SOL.

It really wouldn't be that pretty 😱

If all the backbones were taken out and the internet, or the majority of it, were to be disconnected from the rest of it, there'd be panic for a few days. However, it'd be repaired quickly...in a month something would be patched together to get it functional, and probably within 3-4 mos. everything would be back to normal.

The world somewhat relies on the Internet now, and losing it is not an option.

When I was little, my mom said I watched too much TV. I never watch TV now. Instead, the AT Forums, and other forums dominate most of my time when I'm not studying or out.

If I lost the internet, I'm sure I'd find something. If there was a meteor hurtling at earth and we'd have no time to construct a decent shelter...I'd ask the girl next door to make out with me.

Life always finds away...and Groove always finds soemthing to do. Since I have AT&T Home, I know what it's like to be without the internet for large amounts of time. One time I found myself playing UNO.

Yea...UNO!
