What would (effectively) be the result of Repubs taking majority in house & senate?

I just saw that several polls seem to show Vance getting ahead in Ohio's senate race, and found myself wondering what the effects would be if the 'pubs end up taking a majority in both the House and Senate?

Endless investigations and impeachments in the house. They'd likely pass a nationwide abortion ban. If the senate switches, they'd kill the filibuster and pass the house's abortion ban. Biden would veto almost anything that comes out of congress in this scenario. No judicial appointments would pass. They'd hold the debt ceiling hostage and likely tank the economy further. Basic gridlock and absolutely nothing would be done prior to the '24 elections so they could point and say "See, Biden got nothing done so you should elect whatever vile piece of shit we run against him because change" as a general campaign slogan.

Seat-of-the-pants?

Not going to be a "popular" answer here but for me personally not much will change.

Being in Connecticut somewhat "insulates" me from the worst of the worst in the bunghole southern states and I'm unlikely to blunder into any unplanned pregnancies at my age. (plus I'm male, white and hetro)

Having said that, I do fully understand what it will mean if the GOP takes control of both the House and the Senate.... it will ultimately (if not immediately) be the end of democracy in America and my daughters will be the ones who pay the price.

🙁

Revenge, served icy hot and retaliation, especially against the traitors who stood for real law and order and absolutely not the kind of "justice" where Mitch McConnel and his rigged SCOTUS will use their authority to fashion an autocratic form of gov't hidden behind a thinly veiled in-your-face misnomer "Patriotic Constitutionally Guaranteed Democracy".

they're not doing the thing in your first sentence because of the thing in the second sentence.

other than that, you're spot on

Not just that - Republicans will NEVER eliminate the filibuster. They love it!

They have already eliminated the filibuster for all the things they want to do while in power so what remains of the filibuster exists only to thwart Democratic policies. Why would Republicans scrap such a useful tool?

American citizen forced to meet in the public square to pray and worship the Christian God.

When Trump gets into office, we will a Half Life 2 scenerio. Huge screens wilh Trump telling Americans that he is the greatest. Military patrols on every street corner. Trump will declare himself dictator. The dollar bill will have Trump's face on it. 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100. It doesn't matter. American history will be replaced by Trump history. How was America founded? By Trump! That will be the answer. 😕

Just kidding: I have no idea what would happen.

Welcome to City-17? 😳

Lame duck session. Repugicans don't have the votes to remove after the house impeached. Biden will veto every single bill they vote on. But question remains, are independents stupid enough after 2 years of wasted investigations, will they still vote for them in 2024?

If they force Biden to Veto all their glorious "America saving" bills....
It's a good propaganda tool to convince rubes that "Do nothing Dems are destroying America".
Republicans "passing" bills is just bad news.

Valid point. I still think they do it because they can. Which is their MO anyway. Then use it as a weapon in '24 as "See we passed all these great things and Veto Joe stopped them all". Just a hunch.

One thing’s for sure—Biden wouldn’t get another SCOTUS nominee. Probably wouldn’t get any Fed/DC district or appeals circuit nominees through either.

The biggest substantive issue is that Republicans plan to cause another debt ceiling crisis - so that's a pretty serious threat to the US/world economy.

Other than that it will just mean no new appointments or laws and instead an endless clown show of investigations for the next two years.

I think you are being overly optimistic. Sure the above would happen but the degree to which they cement their power will be unimaginable. Think of it this way, this is a party that has embraced white nationalism at worst or at the very least has no issues with it. They support armed militias trying to overthrow the government. If all they do is appoint some judges and cut entitlements, we will have been lucky.

Oh, don't underestimate the Republican depravity.

They can complete an impeachment of Biden, and/or overturn any vetoes, with 2/3 of Senate members present, and they will come up with creative ways to make sure ~10-15+ Democrats aren't present. What, the secret midnight vote that you somehow didn't hear about during Summer recess...? Only 51 Senators have to be present to establish a quorum.

Big deal. We have POTUS Harris instead. Repugicans still haven’t taken control
