what would cause win2k sp2 pro to reboot randomly?

This is very strage. Sometimes my comp just reboots when it feels like. From playing different games to launcing apps. happens atleast once a day

no viruses detected.

whats goin on?

Try updating your NIC drivers.

My friend did that and his problems disappeared

oh. what NIC? Im usin linksys and the drivers that came with disk.. shrug guess ill upgrade

Maybe the PSU doesn't provide the system with enough juice?

ran into the same probem, I reinstalled w2k about 5 times.. finaly i read up on linksys nic cards being the source of the problem, since then i bought a netgear nic card and have never had a random reboot.

Try going to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery and uncheck the "automatically reboot" maybe you got a BSOD and with that option checked it will reboot for you. This way at least you can see what kind of BSOD you are getting.
