Hey All
My friends system is doing this: **nothing happens after the boot-up screen** I turn on his system and at first everything seems fine,

theres the POST text and I can even go into his bios, however, right after the POST it goes completely blank. The monitor is still recieving a signal from the video card as the monitors light is green but there is absolutely nothing on the screen.

What could be the cause of this? a bad PS. My friend is no gamer just a web-surfer, infact he just got it last month. Thanks for your help.

Sounds like he might have set his video settings above what his hardware can do. That's the general response you would get. Try safe mode and check his settings. (Installing programs can sometimes do this, as they try to set your system for "their" optimal performance.)

I thought the same thing, but I can't even get it to go into Windows at all. I thought someone might have set some bios settings incorrectly so I put the restore to default settings in the bios and it still will not do anything past the first/second POST screen, its like there isn't any Windows at all on it...weird!!

Run Knoppix on and try to rule out hardware issues. Then you'll probably just want to reinstall windows (you can get data off from knoppix if you need to)

If your running XP put the install CD in and boot from the CD, then try the repair option.

I agree with Jolt2, but before performing a repair, just check and see if windows picks up the hard drive and your old windows installation. It should show your hard drive as unpartitioned or as having an os. That way you rule out a lot of possible motherboard problems (as the windows setup wouldn't load if it was the motherboard) and you rule out or isolate a hard drive problem.

Good luck.

if all else fails, move the jumper over by the battery on the mobo to clear the bios and then try booting again...dont forget to put the jumper back to its original position...its just takes a few seconds to do this

yup i think this should solve it, or just go straight into bios and downclock, i bet your friend did some overclocking. because i know when i clock to high, i cant boot into windows.
