What would cause popping and crackling in my speakers?

My Z560's are popping and crackling. It only does it on my Epox 8k3a+ onboard sound. Does it worse during some songs than others. Have WinXP Pro

Anyone have any ideas? I checked all my connections and they look good.

Well lets see what was the brand that didn't list the toll free number on their website. Seems like it was Maxtor, but I know one brand didn't list it and I posted here and someone had a toll free number which was completely different than the one listed on their site.

I seen those contact numbers on Logitech's site but I need tech support and the one on their site costs money which is BS. We all know you will prob have to wait 10-20 mins before you can even talk to anyone. Then its another 10-20 mins troubleshooting. So why not ask to see if maybe someone knows of a toll free number which their prob isn't one but does it hurt to ask. Good greef.

It's long distance; it's not like they make you dial a 1-900 number to get support, jeez.

e-mail first then call. There is no wait on the phone. THey replaced my 2yr old key/mouse combo with their latest and greatest. Definitely worth the long distance fees.

Or, use a cell phone with free long distance.

Since I've had a cell phone for 4 years now I almost never call long distance using a landline.

I am far from a newb pal. I realize the problem is the sound card but I was wondering if someone might have any idea if the onboard sound card is just crap, if its a known issue with Epox 8k3a+ board(and WinXP) and if their might be a fix(other than buying a new sound card).

BTW if you don't have something helpful to say please don't reply.

Dude, I don't know why everyone's on your case so much. Then again, I don't know you.. but still. Doesn't seem like that idiotic of a question to me, I've seen faaaaaaaaaaar worse get by without criticism.

Anyways... Yes, it's most likely a sh!tty onboard sound card. I don't know that board well, but on my ECS K7S5A, the onboard sound sucks hard. I get the popping/crackling crap sometimes, but not ever using my standard/basic SBLive card. I think it's just an issue of being poorly integrated into the motherboard, doesn't know how to efficiently share resources or something... like it takes too much, so when the video is being used intensively, or something like that, it takes away from the sound, resulting in the crackling/popping B-S.

I could be WAY off, but that's what it seemed like to me when I had my prob, and your symptoms sound very similar. Best bet is to just use a real sound card, I think. Or get a better mobo... but a sound card is cheaper.
